Hondata have developed a special high temperature insulating gasket which replaces the stock intake gasket. This and bypassing several heat sources significantly reduces the transfer of heat from the head to the intake and incoming air giving you up to 5% more power.http://www.hondata.com/heatshield.html

Has anyone heard anything about the Hondata Heatshield Gasket?

I picked up a NZ mag from ages ago - it had a whole bunch of mild to extreme modded hondas. A lot of them had this mod.

...But im yet to hear about it in oz yet....

so is it a gimmick or what?

maybe BLKCRX can enlighten us?

Cheers,
mike.

it reduces the intake charge tempreture....by increasing the gaskets width , and re-routing coolant flow thru the intake manifold...

Hondatech has some graphs etc of the reduction - but also has various blurb in regards to the pros and cons of such an investment.

Ive heard it can do some damage too due to rerouting the coolant...

Thanks ben.

....just did a whole lot of reading:

The gasket is made of a thicker (than OEM gasket) high heat capacity polymer.....which minimises transmition of heat from the head to the intake manifold. This reduces intake temperature significantly.

It appears the gasket is capable of two modes - "race" and "street".

The "street" mode does not re-route the coolant. Thus it is an easier install, you dont have to worry about cold temperatures. But you dont get absolute optimum intake temps (although it apparently still works very well).

The "Race" mode re-routes the coolant, so it doesnt go into your intake manifold. This install looks a lot more complex...and its possible that things will stuff up in cold temps (or something like that). But the best heat reduction (and hence most power) would be made with this setup.

They cost US$60 and its claimed to reduce intake temperature by 10 degrees celcius (around town driving) and increase power by up to 4% (.....in race mode.....on a supercharged car :p ).

Available for B16A/B18C5, D16Z, B18C, B18A/B18B, H22A, F22/H23, K-Series (RSX, SI, CRV), K24 (TSX, Accord, Element) and S2000 enginesHondata Heatshield Gasket INSTALL (http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/hondatagasket/hondatagasket.php)

I would be keen to get one in my car.....maybe we can get a group buy if we have enough people interested? (and they are a decent price).

Would you have to replace the hondata gasket every time you pull the intake manifold off?
