Hi, I own a 2008 Honda Accord VTi since May 2008 and this car has always been serviced by the dealer on or before its service schedule date. On Saturday, I drove a short distance to a relos place and when I tried to start the car on my return journey, I couldn't. When I checked the battery both the electrodes were secure and the indicator showed no problem.

Called Honda Assist hotline and was told that it was a battery issue and a replacement would be sent soon. The NRMA battery specialist was on site within 20 minutes - impressive.

I assumed that the factory-fitted Honda battery would last me at least three years. Is this so? The NRMA battery comes with a three-year replacement guarantee. Why can’t Honda guarantee its supposedly better quality product?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Life of a battery relies heavily on how you use your car and the conditions of how you use it.

tell us about how you drive your car, how often, which times, where its parked, how long, hwere etc.

then we'll tell you weather your battery has been good or not.

If i got 2.5 years from a battery I would be content.

not great, but its not bad.

Getting your car serviced regularly hasn't got squat to do with battery life imo.
They might never touch the battery.

Your comment of driving a short distance to relo's house isn't good for your battery either.
Batteries love long trips. Lots of short trips kills batteries. aka many start motor cranks.

do you start the car with the lights/radio/aircon on?

Thanks,

Lights and air con: no
Radio: yes, I rarely turn off the radio before turning off the ignition.

Would love to read your insight on these.

Thanks, N

I also replaced battery on my 08 Accord bcs it was detiriorating and I am about to fit 3rd set of rear pads having done only 55K. Also had ECU replaced 2 weeks ago.
All I can tell you is that Thai made Hondas should not wear Honda badge.

After buying my Accord I was quite surprised to find the size of the battery. It seemed a little smaller than I expected. The size of the battery was the same or similar size as my previous Civic. Always thought a larger car with larger engine capacity should have a larger size battery? The bracket that holds the battery in place seems like it can accomadate a larger size battery. Maybe to save costs Honda decided to fit a smaller battery.

Also, when you said a replacement was sent did you have to pay for a new one?

Ofcourse, I had to pay NRMA $148 for a replacement with a 3-year warranty.

I was lucky. I had to pay 1/2 of the new battery cost. ($80) Covered under 3rd year warranty.
