hey guys went to a few exhaust shops today for em1

one place is charging 600 for a hi flow cat, 2 1/4 inch piping and a muffler that loooks like the ES tuning mufflers (straight through though) for 600 bucks

my question is it worth it for a em1 ? will it give louder sound and louder cross over also at the same time good performance ? if not what would you guys recommend for now with out getting headers just yet. or is 2.5" better. its a em1 with b16a2

i say 2nd option mate, i mean r u saying livo is keeping ur stock piping n attaching just a muffler n hi flow cat? all the carbon build up is just stuck there, making it more restrictive, either way b16a2 should stick to 2 1/4 unless heavily modified, idk bud just gave my two cent advice heheh =) i might b wrong who knows..

get this and get the exhaust shop to do the rest.
probably work out about the same and you have a quality exhaust note. nothing too noisy and annoying that will attract the wrong attention

so a cat back an a high flow cat is what there charging? sounds bout right

I sure hope that includes a performance resonator, an decent muffler, as these can alter how a vehicle sound

louder cross over, maybe not as much as you want, but noticeable, performance yes, mite as well get headers to complete the package, do it all in one go i rekon, saves u the hassle of doin another later down track

hey thanks for the response

theres no hot dog with it just hi flow cat, 2.25" striaght pipe and a es tunning look a like samethign as this but srtaight through

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/SPNFEDEJ/twincamtech_2098_187543720.jpg

guy says if its too loud then he'll chuck a hot dog in for free

so 600 for all that you guys think its worth ? headers will be down the road.

ill tell u one thing, even with a resonator, my cat back is still loud, lol, straight pipe is ridiculously loud, tell him to put it in, saves u the hassle of goin back again, an wasting time..

oh u didnt state what materials used, eg. stainless steel, mild steel etc
an how the bends are, mandrel bent?

If its a mandrel bent, system, that would make the 600 worth it, if not for get it

its gunna sound like shit and be loud as.

get a mugen twinloop catback+ hi flow cat generic brand and tell him to weld the flange to fit to your OEM headers.

Will sound and perform 500 times better. Though...it aint gunna be 600$.

You kinda get what you pay for.

mugen never made a twin loop for coupe unfortunately.... an if u try an stick a ek muffler on a em1, it will look silly, too short.... best bet to get a proper axle back that extends or chop an weld the existing ek axle back an extend it

heres a suggestion, get a 2nd hand, ek cat back an just mod the axle back so it extends out the rear bum.... since the b-pipe are virtually in all ek/em/ej

If it's stainless and mandrel, that sounds like a good price. 2.25" is perfect for N/A B16A. 2.5" might be a bit big unless you build the engine. 2" will be a little restrictive up top.

Get a header too :)

dont expect a perormance gain from a catchback without turing, and even then it is negligable...

but it will sound nice i guess, depending on the design, mufflers etc etc

hi-flow cat and a straight thru exhaust will give you increased performance.
It will be loud though, and i wouldn't go beyond 2 1/4, most whoget 2 1/2 scarifice the lower end for that little power difference.
$600 if it is mandrel bent is cheap. Hi-flow cat is about $250-300 ( i would go steel cat though) decent muffler is already about $200, so then i'm sure you can figure the rest.

i see, on sound wise would idle and low rpm be soft and not that loud until vtec kicks in ? because we did open headers as a test only. and its not loud on idle but low rpm was pretty loud ish. vtec kicked in can hear 4 blocks away or so

keep your standard cat and make 50 bucks back from scrap metal

one thing many wont tell you, u need the whole system to work properly, cat backs only work on turbos, an not as effective as N/a....my advice, do the whole system at once, that way atleast u will have a solid gain from the exhaust system, i/h/e

i see what headers would you recommend 4-2-1, 4-1 or tri y

wanting something for mid and high.

was thinking for 4-2-1 headers, hi flow cat, stainless steel medrel bent 2.25 " and a muffler like the exhaust shop recommending plus like those muffler cos it looks stockkkk

Is that a stainless & not including muffler? So just from the cat back to the muffler including a resonator?

yeap, since i already had a axle back in place, all i needed was the b pipe since no one would sell me a aftermarket b-pipe

all up
axle back = 250
custom b-pipe = 250

so not bad

BUT they made a mistake, since the axle back is a 60mm, an the guys instead made a 2.5 inch... so slight inconsistence... gonna change b-pipe later on
