Hey all, I have a 2001 Honda Prelude Si, Semi Automatic Tiptronic, its done 34,000kms, its just starting to do something weird tonight, if I have come to a stand still, either on a slope or on flat gound, the engine will rev up and down between 800-1300revs however also it will go forward a little bit, then go backward a bit, then go forward, then backward, and this keeps repeating, both in auto and tiptronic mode.

If you guys could shed any light on this I would be most grateful, im not sure what is wrong and I am a bit worried about it. Thanks guys!!

yeh get it check out because alot of people have problems with that trans and some have to get rebuilt. go to www.preludeaustralia.com but at 34ks it shouldnt really shit itself.

If you are in Sydney, take it to Hanny's at Smithfield and let them check it out for you. They will look after you and it won't cost you anything.

Only at a standstill? I wouldn't rule out that it could be just an idle problem.

Rob should be able to take care of you

sounds like the iacv to me, also its mainly the 97/98 autos that suffer from self destruct. a 2001 lude should be fine.

Sup!! I got da same prob wit a 93 manual, cut my battery backup to my ecu so it resets every time i start it. Works when my headlights off, but any big power drain will cause it to fluctuate between 800 and 1300 rpm. before i cut the backup it would do it always up to 1800rpm... very very annoying with a 2.5" exhaust. been told many different solutions but nothing works yet. who's this guy in smithfield?

The 5th gen Auto transmissions have serious problems, they cark it regularly... u mite look at it as a blessing to get a h22a manual ;)

There's a debate with the wreckers on that.... they seem to be just as bad til 99, but had a 2001 prelude with 68,000kms need a new box....

Also, this doesn;t sound like the usual 5th gen problem - I don't know what it is though

I suggets you seek a honda dealer or an auto tranny specialist

true, remeber that early 98 are made in late 97 and late.
