Guys,

I've got my car on dealers warranty ( 3months / 5k km ) and made appointment this week so dealer can have a look on my issue.

Just want to be more informed on this, so maybe someone experienced can tell me what could be the root cause of this squeaky sound coming from steering wheel? It only happening when turning steering wheel left as you can see in the video and when car is stopped or moving very slow.

So...what could that be? Failed power steering pump or bad/old power steering fluid, or maybe some mechanical issue with steering column?

I checked for the leaks under the car and there is nothing. Steering wheel is not hard to operate.

I don't think the noise is caused by steering pump or fluids.
It sounds like the steering wheel housing is making contact with something and it's making the rubbing noise.

Have you also cleaned around the steering wheel area with any interior cleaner? If so, some of the liquid could have made it's way around the plastic parts of the steering wheel and that could also lead to the noise.

My cars got the same problem, not as bad as yours though.

I think there is a TSB for this issue - Unsure what the rectification is - Will be getting it looked at when it's in for it's service.

I took the car to the reputable Honda specialist today who serviced my previous Accord very well and he told me this is nothing to worry about and if dealer will not be able to fix it he will fix it with my next service ( 60k in 5 months ). He did cleaned up the steering wheel area around pedals with high pressure air and added some lubricant and it seems to be a little but less squeaky now. He told me this is not failed pump or anything related to power steering fluid. I'll take it to the dealer on Friday as with dealer warranty you do not have a choice to select your preferred service and will see what they can do.

Hi,

I had the same problem a few months back, luckily it was 2 month before my extended warrently ran out.

the center i took it to was John Blair's honda on High street Melb.

It seems to be a common problem with the 07 euros.
The dealer ship said there was a problem with the steering column seal so they ordered a new part which took 2 weeks to arrive from Japan and the problem was fixed.

To be honest, it took them over 2 services and a complaint letter to figure out what was wrong with it All it took was for a head mechanic to sit in the drivers seat for a second to identified the problem.

Hope this helps.

I got exactly the same problem from sometime last year and until now it is still exist. When I turn the wheel while the car is stationary, it makes noise just as the above video described. I took it into mechanic who thinks there is problem with steering wheel column. He attempted to fix it but the problem but it did not go away. Maybe I should contact my Honda dealer, there is Northway Honda dealer recently opened near my home. Robert Lane just too far away.

So I called honda to find out what the replaced part was hoping that it might help you guys out a little.

It wasn't the steering wheel column but it was the Seal of the Steeling Rack. The replacement part was called a Casket Kit.

I would provide the part number but they didnt have that info handy.

Hope this helps.

I took mine to the dealer yesterday. The guy said it's the seal. He added some lubricant and told me there is no more noise. On the way back the noise comes back again. Will do another appointment with dealer, still have another month of warranty.
Very disappointed.

that was what they did to mine too.

Should ask for a replacement the next time you go there.

After mine was replaced its been smooth, no sound what so ever.

so my advice is to ask for a replacement esp while you still have the warrenty.

same thing here mate, honda dealer told me it was my aftermarket wheels.. seriously all this BS.. wish they would pull their finger out and try to diagnose the problem instead of blaming on BS.... if anyone has been able to cure this problem, please post your reply here.

Had the same issue on my late 2006 Euro. Dealer has ordered replacement parts (steering rack) and apparently will be a 2 day job to fix. Lucky I have the extended warranty.

I have a 2005 Euro with same probs. after 5 times back to different Honda dealers prob still there!
power steering oil was changed twice and a new pump installed.
car is now out of warranty. both dealers now say they can't hear noise even having car overnight.
squeak is not quite as bad as yours, but do get a really loud growl after long distance driving when parking.
I am writing to Honda Australia.

There is a known issue with the steering rack rubbers with the Accord Euro. Honda Australia knows what it is. All you need to go is change the steering rack ruibbers and it's fixed.

Mine is getting done as we speak.

Hi Guys,

Had mine fixed under warranty. Basically according to the dealer that they had a steering rack overhaul.

Now the noise went away, however I'm left with rough idle and much louder noise under acceleration??

Can anyone give it a guess that what might have gone wrong in this??

See the thread about the power steering hose leak recall issued on March 28th.

Fluid leaks from small cracks in the high pressure hose. This affects the PS pump and you get noise. When you top up the fluid it goes away.

I have the same squeek as well.... will get the dealers to change the steering rack rubbers before warranty goes out.

so was this noise narrowed down to the Steering rack rubbers? or steering rack seal, ie Casket Kit, as mentioned by dec3it earlier in the thread?
or are they the same thing?

I noticed this happening to my 05 CL9 the other day, but a lot softer than the video posted. only happens when steering left, and its also intermittent, doesn't happen all the time.
what will happen if this does not get fixed? will the noise just get louder? or is there the potential that something will break??

I checked my steering fluid, its still at the max mark, yet I get the squeek when I park my car in the garage. It didnt really bother me, but if its warranty, I would like it fixed.

Sorry to bring up a 2 month old post, but I recently started having this issue as well, but for me only when I'm steering left whilst the car is still (from parking).

Any solid reason why this may be?

Lazarus has resurrected an old thread. Top marks for the allegory!

I believe that it's due to power steering fluid loss and it is related the current safety recall from Honda where they replace the high pressure PS hose. See the sticky at the top of the thread list.

Haha I didn't notice hidden meaning neither!
I guess i'll have a look and see if there's any power steering fluid loss, as for the PS Hose, mine has already been replaced. hopefully it's nothing too serious =]

thx for the reply!

I had the same problem a few years ago. Honda and it's agent didn't want to know about it.
In hot weather and long trips we experience a dog like howl when we turn the steering wheel.
Heard from an independent source that synthetic oil in the steering box would stop the squeak/howl.
We have not tried this, just gotten used to it I guess, not as bad now though.

We had several things to try and help, but did not make much difference.
The oil and filter in steering box was changed as well as seals I think.

Hope this info helps somewhat.

Cheers Les

thanks for the reply quill53, i went to mechanic and they say its the common problem with the CL9 where it has something to do with the steering wheel rubber that gone dry, the only thing they can do is just lubricate them..
feel sad nothing we can do to fix it..

same issues on my inlaw's 07 euro too. have had it since about 30k km and could never pinpoint the issue.. No issue on my 03 CL9 but I have other issues like the wear and tear on the shafts/axles causing the steering to be oversensitive to humps and grips the road tending towards the side of the road :(

Any updates on this issue? I recently bought an 05 CL9 Lux and when turning the wheel left I have the same symptoms as Timo.
