Hey guys, don't like the yellowish white light of the foggies like most ppl. I don't wanna do the H9 conversion I just want to get new H11s and would like to get one of the MTEC ones...

First - are the blue version really blue (like enough to get the cops pulling u over)?

Second - what are people's opinions between the white/blue/yellow options (I have an 05 Euro lux in blue)?

Third - do any retailers like autobarn or supercheap stock MTEC (or if not where are good online places to buy?

Thanks :)

I have the PIAA H11 yellow Plasma Ion 2500K globes and i love it.
I recommend PIAA or Mtec and you can buy both brands from ebay. Not sure if autobarn or supercheap sell them.

Thanks for the pics, I'm after looks, but withoutlosing too much performance (ie how it would be with leds). Leaning towards the blue but interested in various opinions!

for performance & look in white or yellow:
http://stores.ebay.com/autopropartsandaccessoriesstore/_i.html?_nkw=h11&submit=Search&_sid=387543997

http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=113

for white / blue look only without breaking the bank (I just searched randomly on the cheapest H11 blue tinted bulbs):
http://stores.ebay.com.au/headlightbulbs/_i.html?_nkw=h11&submit=Search&_sid=238238421

but, with blue tinted bulbs for your foggies, don't expect to be able to see through heavy fog...

last time i went to autobarn, they sell Phillipsblue vision / crystal vision at such a huge mark up.. Repco sells Narva blue tinted bulbs for $50 something in H11 I think.

OK I was looking at these three:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AUTHENTIC-MTEC-H11-XENON-SUPER-WHITE-HEADLIGHT-BULBS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem588bbce904QQitemZ38030 1535492QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MTEC-XENON-HID-COSMOS-BLUE-WHITE-H11-HEADLIGHT-BULBS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem588bf7209cQQitemZ38030 5350812QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries

What I'm getting the vibe of is:

Yellow - best visibility, interesting/different look but I wouldn't use them all the time

Blue - worst visibility but I like the idea of the bluish look and I'd use them more often/as standard 'on' foglights

White - in between on looks/visibility...

:) so unsure!

bear in mind, if you drive to NSW it'd cost you $86 under 'Rule 218-1 (a) Use fog light when not permitted' per:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/rulesregulations/downloads/1210_demerits_general.pdf

so, that's why i chose yellow for both the GTI and CU2 :)

these ebay stuffs, you gotta check the international postage cost first. some charge up to US$30 just to get a pair of bulb shipped here.

Yeah I have a mate who can forward things on so it'd be less than 20 to get them here.

Also what does 'not permitted' actually mean in practice...

Also what does 'not permitted' actually mean in practice...

the electrical signage on the road says 'illegal to use fog lights in non adverse weather' or something..

so my interpretation of 'adverse weather' is
- heavy to moderate rain
- fog
- light shower... not too sure :)

nonetheless, there are many drivers who turn on their foggies in clear conditions cos either: to look cool or no idea what the foggies do / what the light control stalk does (ie: my wife has no idea what each control does on the driver side!)

but personally in the last 10 yrs or so, previous cars did not have foggies :p, I rarely use my fog lights except in heavy fog cos I want to make sure other drivers can see me and not hit me :p

oh wow. natt. those PIAA ones are $80!
reckon for the price better to get 3000k hids?

is it really easy to install?
i want to have yellow foggies. but $80 for bulbs?

In terms of yellowness (I want proper yellow not just yellowish) - should I go for the PIAA? The MTEC ones are 'golden' so are they less yellow?

well, PIAA is made in Japan and you get what you pay for, i hope :p

shops in Sydney used to sell them for >$120.

HID retrofits are too troublesome I think and they'd be chinese made for around $100 something.

or cheapest way is just to get a Lamin-X fog lights tint

http://www.lamin-x.com/Acura-TSX-09-Fog-Light-Covers-p/ac115.htm

it's look like this (got the Lamin-X on my GTI):
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5009/5283430915_5ac7b92dd0_b.jpg

but the light colour (with normal bulbs) is not as yellow as the PIAA bulbs.

Sorry for the thread revival but does anyone know how good the Nokya yellow bulbs are?

Choosing between that and the PIAA.. price wise they differ ~$30
