Hi guys,
Where do you locate your fire extinguishers with full interior?
I used to have it mounted via the passenger seat brackets. My mount broke and now looking for an easier place to remount.
Thanks

Ideally you should mount in a location that allows you to reach and remove the extinguisher from its bracket whilst seated and strapped in to whatever restraints you have. This is a little difficult in a full interior street car without a cage though. In both my cars I have mounted them to the front two bolts of the seat rail using a fabricated aluminium bracket. Refer to the pictures below. HERE (http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/10_gen_req/GQ09_Schedule_H_Q111.pdf) is the relevant CAMS regulation. Basically as far as CAMS are concerned the extinguisher must remain restrained under an acceleration of 25G and for entry level speed and drifting events it must be at least 900g and compliant with AS1841.

blastnpast - how did you mount it to the centre console?
ChargeR - i had it there last time, but my bracket broke (dodgy material), similar to your first pic, but i had it underneath the bracket which made it really hard to bolt the seat back in. For that setup in the first pic you have it on top of the bracket, did you get longer bolts or are they the standard ones? i wanted to do that but was concerned about losing thread length.
I have recaros too. not sure if that makes any diff to the brackets as compared to stock ones.

straight into the plastic? horizontal or vertical?

horizontal would be best.
also its prob best to make sure its not flimsy when its bolted or screwed to the plastic.
best would be best to hook it up in the pics chargeR put up.

Horizonal works just fine :)

Mine is behind my drivers seat, on the side, underneath the window, but i have no interior. I am going to move it to the same place as ChargeR though, Because i can only get to mine once i'm out of the seat. Need it in a slightly more accessible place. Not sure about just mounting it to the plastic though, seems a little dodgy.

i like the first pic too, but as you see the mounting bracket is located on top of the seat bracket, since the seat bracket is sorta like a U shape e.g ```\__/``` the aluminium mount does not sit flush hence the full length of the bolt won't be screwed down, so do you need a longer seat bracket bolt or is losing a bit of thread length ok? from memory the difference between the lower and upper parts of the U is about 4mm for my ek rails.

same bolt should be fine. if not just go to bunnings and pick up a bolt with 5mm extra length.
1 long piece of metal should be enough to secure it tight and should be easier to bend.
also may i ask y ur installing it, if u plan to go to the track then its all good, but its its just for daily i wouldnt bother.

yeah all good, i'm starting to track the car and entering into the local hill climbs, so need an extinguisher installed, previously had one, but metal i used was thinner hence why i could just slip it under the bracket. however the way i did it made it a little flimsy so it broke.

yeah the metal u need to get is about 3mm thick, that would be strong enough to hold it in place
thinker the better but might be a bit harder to bend and drill into if u dont have the right tools
