Just a another question about locking. I got an EM1 and when you start the engine the doors automaticly lock. Is there anyway to turn that off? Cause it's really annoying.

What the......?!?! What aftermarket alarm have you got, cos that certainly isn't standard!

I got a EJ8 and mine does that. Your alarm system has a setting for it. I think it's called "anit-hijack" (well for me it is called that). Read your manual book for your alarm system to switch it off or on :)

Since we're on the subject about central locking. When the doors are locked, can the passenger side unlock their door? Coz on my car the passenger side won't unlock :( I have to unlock the driver side to unlock both door locks.

True that, my car came with a viper alarm, which is off at the moment anyways, no idea on how to turn it on. Got no manual book, got nothing. But unlike yours R96P-EJ8, the passenger can open there own lock.

Speaking of central locking. If I want to hook up remote central locking to my 96 ek GLI, do I just need a motor in the passenger door?

Easy or hard job to do?

you can get a central locking motor installed. I believe the kits are avaliable at most places like supercheap or autobarn

Coz on my car the passenger side won't unlock :( I have to unlock the driver side to unlock both door locks.Mine does that as well ('96 GLI), once you get in and start the car it locks itself. I learnt the hard way when I first bought my car, I didn't have a spare set of keys and I went to open up the gates to get into my driveway and 'lock' went the car. I had to get the NRMA. LOL. I still haven't been able to fix it. Same with the passenger door, if they try to open it when locked the alarm goes off! I have this other problem if my car is parked on a slight slope, sometimes the keyless entry doesn't work and you have to continually press it until it finally communicates with the car. Does anyone else get this problem?
