99% chance it will NOT bolt on ( no modification). You will need some sort of welding done. Just get it all in , take it to a shop

As Ben already said, you just buy it and take it to an exhaust shop and get them to install it. They'll probably need to do some welding and maybe put on some flanges or flex-pipe. It doesn't matter how long this piece or that piece is. If you want a performance exhaust upgrade you just have to be prepared to have things made to fit properly by people who know how.

Don't get a de-cat. It's very illegal. Your car becomes louder and releases a much larger amount of carbon emissions into the atmosphere. If you're caught with it by the Environmental Protection Agency you can be fined up to $10,000.
Instead by yourself a high-flow catalytic converter made by a reputable brand like Metal or Magnaflow. They generally come in 100cel, 200cel and 300cel. The lower the 'cel' rating the higher the exhaust flow through the cat = larger power 'gains'. If you buy a cheap POS cat-converter then it might not reduce your emissions adequately like a good cat will.

Don't know anything about venom. What's your budget like? Are you short on cash or trying to do everything really cheaply? Or can you splurge a bit more?

i m on tight budget and wanna do it cheap
but then i dont mind spending more on quality parts if they do reali give significant difference ;)
budget wise i hv got no idea
wt do u think if i just get the hi-flow cat alone and keep the rest stock?
i dont like loud exhaust personally, that only brings more honda haters :(

who cares what others think of ur car, haters gonna hate.... as far as i know, running a high flow cat on stock system, wouldnt make much difference, if at all nothing, u need a full system to make the most of it, atleast 2.25, anything bigger tham oem to say

an yea, stick to known cats, ebay ones will crumble away, theres a reason there cheap

so do u think that ebay catback kit would work well with a hi-flow cat? cheers

yea any will do, just be aware of fitment problems, its pretty much a hit an miss with ebay stuff, u should also invest in headers, to make the whole package, even cheap headers are better than oem

an make sure u get the right piping size, no point in getting 2.5 or 3inch for that matter, 2.25 is the ideal size for 1.6 non turbo, the whole idea is to keep back pressure an not lose as much as u can with larger diameter

Some ebay cat backs sound nice, others sound crap, raspy an high pitched

Yeah as above I wouldn't go larger than 2.25" on N/A B16A unless it's built. I'm running 60mm but I have had my head built up nicely.

Header is fine to have a 2" outlet. You can get good headers for $300-600+ and used items are normally a good grab.

Ebay cat-back could work out well. Fitment issues are normally fixable at an exhaust shop for not too much $$$. If I were you I would get a 4-2-1 header with a 2" outlet maybe a second hand 5Zigen or Fujitsubo etc. A good quality 100cel high-flow cat in either 2" or 2.25" and yeah maybe try out the Ebay cat-back could be an unknown bargain!

Exhaust shop will probably need to weld some flanges and flex-pipe on around the cat to make it all fit.

yea this is the problem of hving a del sol
the cat back is model specific
2nd hand is rarely seen
a good one from the states will cost me abt 1500 for parts alone
wt do u think abt making a custom one at exhaust shop?
how much wud that cost usually?

mugen_ctr
18-01-2011, 03:07 PM
depends on the place an what sorta system ur after, generally speaking a custom mandrel bent 2.25 might cost any where from 500 - 800

An if they ask for a hotdog/resonator, say yes, it does makes heaps to quiten the system down, an make sure u use a quality muffler, not a autotechnica/monza muffler, it pays to have a good muffler

Only problem i have with exhaust shops is how well they can make it, some make really shotty exhaust system, with poorly welded areas

Performance Exhaust in Ringwood has done good work for my friends and I in the past. Good welds and the piping they use has a strong wall/thickness. Their prices are reasonable.

found a few deals from USA ebay
around $700-800 shipped and i think it's still affordable
just wondering which company is better in making exhaust
they are by Greddy, BuddyClub, Tanabe and Skunk2
do u guys think they worth spending a double?

Greddy (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GREDDY-TI-C-EXHAUST-CAT-BACK-HONDA-DEL-SOL-VTEC-92-96-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf40892e6QQitemZ33051 1717094QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries#ht_1662wt_1543)

In my opinion they are definitely worth it.

I would go Tanabe first pick for sure, then probably Greddy, BC then Skunk2

cool :D
will save up a bit more and get the tanabe!!
btw do u know if the ARC air box off a dc2 will fit my del sol?
intake will be the next step
thinking abt whale penis or ARC airbox
wt are the pros and cons?
i hv heard SRIs hv heat problems...

Dunno man, think it'd be better to get an EG one, not sure of the bay length between the two chassis.

Whale penis is nice, it actually produces quite a nice power curve for a SRI and sounds great. CAI won't make that much more power.

Glad you're going for the Tanabe Medallion though. They're a great looking exhaust, a couple of my CRX friends have them. Really nice tone too, and top quality.
