Welcome to the site! To attach an image you need to, firstly, upload the image to a site such as http://photobucket.com/ and then post it using the [i m g] [/i m g] tags (minus the spaces in between).

Friends don't let friends buy Rotas.

Rota copy everything, they are no where near as good as the real thing in terms of quality and safety.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJeFB6SRslk&feature=player_embedded

So yeah, save up for some genuine stuff. Even if it takes ages.

Chriskoss
16-03-2011, 10:47 PM
I respect that video but one thing im pondering about : if you're going to crash your car, you're going to crash it. So in the end, what difference does it make if you're genuine wheels dont crack in a crash where as my fake wheels do crack? There may be 1000 reasons, and im happy to hear them.

Vvvtec
16-03-2011, 11:02 PM
It gives you Internet creditz.

But seriously, I understand staying away from replica wheels for track use, that's obvious. But for daily I see no issue in running rota's.

I know jeremy personally, And pat I can tell you the chances of him cracking a wheel from the way he drives is next to zero.

cool
16-03-2011, 11:17 PM
welcome mate. nice and clean eg. i like!

Temp3st
16-03-2011, 11:26 PM
Its not just in regards to crashing n stuff, replicas just dont hold up as well imo my mate bought brand new XXRs and about 2 weeks later he hit a pot hole at like 60kms an hour and bent both front rims. Since then its happened a few times, and what scares me even more is the fact that he could hammer them straight (I was watching him do it lol) so yeah it might not be in a crash but the difference is your genuine rim might buckle slightly if you hit a pot hole at a 110kms on the highway, but what happens if the rep shatters spokes and shit gets hectic on the highway? cars can and have rolled from just tyres popping, imagine the wheel hub no longer being attached to the rim after smashing a pot hole :S just my 2cents from experiences thats all do with it what you will :P

jeremydawg
17-03-2011, 09:46 AM
Thanks for the input guys. I dont thrash my car often and i think cause its my daily, replicas will do for me. If i was doing a serious build with big cams and full on suspension taking it to the track then i would definately go genuine.
Im going with nightspeed wheels lols, theyve got the rota gt3 type wheels which IMO looks better than the rota gt3. only $550

Chriskoss
17-03-2011, 11:58 AM
Makes sense. In a serious crash it would help to have more sturdy wheels.. but then again in a serious crash I don't want to be in a honda altogether, i'd rather be in a mercedes benz with 3 tonnes of steel protecting me ahha

vtecing
17-03-2011, 03:57 PM
very clea, i like it

newpaddy3
17-03-2011, 06:01 PM
What if the fake wheels were to lead to the crash?

Hit a pothole and you buckle your wheel, then the tyre comes off and you lose control and your car gets written off.

In the same situation the genuine wheel would have been able to withstand the pothole and be fine.

But that situation comes down to tyre profile as well.

But why put yourself in that sort of situation to begin with?

PLUS buying fakes takes money away from the genuine companies that actually do the research and development, which results in them becoming bankrupt and having to shut down.

Oh what are the chances of that you say?

Well how about ARC filing for bankruptcy.

http://blog.nengun.com/news-arc-international-bankrupt

ARC is in debt approximately $7.8Million.

Greddy also filed for bankruptcy at $60Million in debt. Yes sixty million dollars in debt. But due to them being a much larger company and having a much larger overseas market they were able to pull through.

So that is why you don't buy fakes because you're wrecking the industry.

jeremydawg
17-03-2011, 07:17 PM
Wouldnt that be cause of the financial meltdown though? I buy fakes cause i cant afford it, atleast if i die in an accident ill still have some money in my bank account to leave for my relatives lol

newpaddy3
17-03-2011, 07:19 PM
Just save up, sure it may take twice as long, but it's worth it.

Even for the wank factor alone.

have a read of thsi while you're at it. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/294366-track-report-rota-rims-and-p-cup-slicks/

i think rota rims have that JWL marking too.

Failed Rotas.

And those TE37s are forged, so just imagine how a cast rep would have gone in that situation.

Can you spot the difference between our photos?

The genuine buckled, the fake literally fell apart,

This fake wheels discussion seems to be heavily biased from people who have genuine rims. If you hit a pole damaging your rims is the last thing i'd be worried about. I've never seen a pothole (especially one big enough to damage a wheel) on a road such as a freeway, and it would have to be a serious pothole. Its more likely to be on a road that has a 60 or less limit. Also the chances of the tyre flying off the rims or something so wild happening that you lose control of your car and crash at that speed are pretty low. Not to mention that you could force the council or whoever is responsible for the road to pay the charges (I know people who have done this). Even if you just lost control on a smooth road and hit a gutter and smashed the rim, big deal a replacement rim is like 2-300 dollars? I wouldnt use these wheels for track use but for street use I could definately justify the price. What if you had a 2-3k set of rims and you hit a gutter? You'd still want to replace that rim and the consequences of hitting the gutter are going to be the same safety wise. Please keep in mind I'm referring to mainly rota wheels here and not endorsing other lesser quality fake brands as I dont have any experience with them. Also beautiful car jeremy, jealous of your foggies!

My mate buckled both his wheels going through small pot holes at 60kms an hour. They were XXR which afaik is part of Rota? And you can usually pick up a decent set of genuine rims 2nd hand for half the price

crobaa

I dunno but xxr's are cheaper than rota's, and you can call the council and make them pay for any damage. I wouldnt say that genuine rims are immune to damage from potholes either. I'm sure they'd cop some kind of ding/scratch which would piss you off on a $500+ rim. My mate has a xr5 focus and his rim snapped on a pothole and scraped his under carriage and the council paid for it. Their a pretty good quality car too

jeremydawg
24-03-2011, 01:24 PM
lol, the replica/genuine battles continue! I do completely agree with ya though crobaa!

Im going for the sleeper affect now though, or atleast ill keep it as is now add an eg6 rear spoiler get a "breeze" sticker and settle with that.

Update: just dropped off my ride to the mecho, getting a service and changing my gearbox/lsd oil with some Motul oil. kind of excited lol

crobaa
24-03-2011, 01:26 PM
Now you can rev the **** off it and not feel so guilty with the motul oil!

u mad?
24-03-2011, 02:54 PM
thats a nice civic, looks great for a 18 year old car

bargain for 6k

what does the interior smell like?

jeremydawg
24-03-2011, 08:11 PM
thanks moite!

smells pretty good actually, better than my old car that smelt like burnt pube. I love the smell when i turn the a/c on!

Got it back from the mecho, he used 2litre motul gear/lsd oil and reckons it wasnt enough need to top up with another 1/2litre so gotta get another bottle. some issues with suspension one serious problem is my left strut is leaking oil, hopefully aint too expensive. chassis has done 300xxxklms so that explains it lols. should be done spraying my eg6 spoiler soon, ill smack some pics up when its done!

Vvvtec
25-03-2011, 08:54 AM
Wtf???? How??

jeremydawg
25-03-2011, 09:02 AM
well i park my car like i usually do, facing down the hill (lucky i did that cause theres a tree right in front of my car when i park there so they woudlve had to of tried to go around it). anyway, i heard some noises last night around my car but thought it was nothing so went back to sleep. i forgot to use my immobiliser to lock the car.
So i wake up this morning and find my car on the friggin road, car was in neutral but i ALWAYS put it in reverse so its impossible it rolled and the handbrake failed. Nothing was stolen as i know of yet but they took everything out of my glove box and chucked it on the floor looking for valuables. thank goodness for the tree cause they couldve still rolled it down the hill.
Steering wheel locked so they couldnt do jack when the car is facing the neighbours house lol

crobaa
25-03-2011, 10:20 AM
How did they open the doors? Just smash the locks with a screwdriver? I have a feeling the glass on the hatch can be pried open with a crow bar, same way they break into utes with canopies

Vvvtec
25-03-2011, 10:22 AM
No doubt someone off here. Faceless pricks

jeremydawg
25-03-2011, 12:55 PM
sometimes my central locking plays up and leaves the passenger door unlocked, so thats how they got in. im sure they drive by every now and again to check if i forget to lock the car, thats why as soon i forget theyre on to it. Ill be taking my dohc vtec stickers off and editing this thread, pics will be taken off for now until i blur out my licence plates. i also put down exactly where i live on my profile which aint too clever either

yeah your right crobaa, hatch would be heaps easy to break into...unless the boot hatch is wired to the alarm. ill be sleeping with one eye open from now on
sleeper is the best way to go, draws less attention from thieves and cops

Edit: they friggin took my cd outta the cd player and took my Cat Stevens album i just bought!!! oh well atleast my car isnt gone lol

Central locking is now fixed thanks to autobarn
