Lube up your speedo cable or replace it. They tend to start binding inside the cable case when they get old. Not a cluster issue.

what do u suggest to use to lube it up?

The cable should be pulled out, inspected and I just use a light automotive grease, WD40 can work too if you can't be bothered pulling the cable out. Just pull out the cluster, and spray down one end.

so we clean one side of the cable which will be the one to the cluster or the other side?

The inner part of the cable can only be removed out one way from the outer casing, if I remember correctly it was the gearbox end.

That's if you pull out the whole cable assy from the car. Don't lose the metal clip that holds the cable end into the top of the gearbox. Hope you get what I mean lol!

spot on. cable isn't spinning freely within the sleeve.

I've heard motorbike chain lube can be used as a possible lubricant. Wd-40 is too thin in my opinion. it wont last very long

WD40 is detrimental.
It will lubricate at first but after it dries out, it will be worse than what you started out with.

Dry lube I think is best I think. If you can take the whole cable out and rub the dry lube on and get it in there, it'll be the best.

If not then maybe just grease or whatever else, just don't use WD40.

what about silicon spray, would that be suitable?

Not sure if it will react with whatever in in there to start with.

But that too will dry out.

thicker the better. Harder to apply but better in the long run.

with the bonnet open looking at the motor it will be on the back of the gearbox near the firewall. If you dont have a factory service manual it may be worth downloading one to familiarise yourself before pulling stuff apart

Just a thought and for some clarification, which gauge is it that is bouncing around?
You say km side but does that mean the speedo (the one that tells you how fast you are going)
Or the tacho (the one that tells your revs)

If it is the first one then do what has been discussed, if it is the second one, you have loose connections in your distributor which can be easily fixed.
