Hey all,

I'm a proud owner of a relatively new FD1 and im in the market for some new rims. The only thing I know at the moment is I love the Advan Racing RGii or RG2 (how ever you like to see it). They can be seen here. http://www.advanwheels.com.au/wheels/wheel.aspx?id=7

I have some questions I hope the wise heads of this forum can provide:
1. What size and offset should I consider? (I will be lowering my car just little in the future)
2. Is it worth it to import rims from overseas (e.g. from the US/Asia) and which websites would you recommend?
3. Are replicas really that terrible? I'd like your opinions on the ROTA brand of replicas. As you can see from the link below the ROTA Boosts are a replica of the Advan Racing Rg2's.

Cheers guys :D

1st. congrats on ur new car and nice taste in wheels!

1. i would go with 17x9 +22 or 17x9 +29... or 18x9 with 215/35, 215/40 or 205/40 tyres. those will sit very flush with some camber and guard rolling.. but u may just want it to be functional and not spend the extra money to make the wider wheels fit. in that case 17x8 +40 or 18x8 +40 will be fine

2. u can buy ur wheels directly from suppliers overseas, but i would choose to find a middle man at a local import store to organise the shipping and transfer details... places like jdm yard (they are a trader on this forum, if u want to contact them) may help u source the wheels from japan.

3. replicas are ok as long as u dont try to pass them off as genuine advans. rotas do a good job of replicating wheels. ppl hate on rotas, but hey.. they will save u a lot of money if ur only after the look. if ur gonna do serious performance and track ur car every week, then its probably best to buy the better quality genuine wheels... and if u dont think u can handle some criticism from jdm elitists, then saving money for real rg2's will earn u more "respect".

bloodynice FA5 there

Funny you mention that, have a read of this. http://skylineownersusa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10566

I have never had and never will have problems with rotas. If i paid 3k for a genuine set of rims, then i'd perhaps be a bit annoyed, but hey, only the people who want to spend that much on the genuine ones will be able to tell

Cheers for the help guys. I found a place called Vision R in O'Connor, Perth who is the distributor of rotas in Perth and even though he has the Advan Racing RG2's he still recommends the rotas lol..
The tyres he is recommending is a brand I have not heard of before.. It's a Chinese brand called Jinyu and some sources say they are a step below Federals ><.. Tyres are one thing wouldn't skimp out on hahaha
Any opinions out there on Jinyu tyres?

federal 595s are fairly cheap already. will u be wanting safe specs or an aggressive fit? depending on what u choose, it can also impact on the type of tyres u should get.
