View Full Version : Eg vs. Ek - which to choose

Hey guys
Tried doing a search about the eg civic vs. ek civic but couldn't find anything
The question is :
I'm in the market for a new daily. Narrowed it down to the eg gli or ek gli civic, manual hatchback's only

Thus - From experience, can anybody tell me what is the better car to buy in terms of driveability (ride comfort, space, etc) and ease of performance modding?

I know the EK has a 1.6 whereas the Eg 1.5, and thus has a bit more power
Im just undecided in to which to buy, Yes I have test drove both, and decided I like the look of a JDM eg more than an Ek, but the Ek feels more comfortable to drive, but still can't decide which to go for, seeing as i've never owned a civic before and don't want to regret choosing 1 over the other

Another question I'd appreciate answered is which is lighter and handles better with a few basic mods ( coils, I/H/E )

Any help appreciated, cheers

EK > EG for comfort doors feel allot firmer, less rattles

Ek would obvious have the better chassis to start off, newer an slighty stiffer chassis, an ofcourse, newer engine an interior :)

id say stick to eg if ur planing to drop in a engine, an plan on track work, simply cause its lighter

EG will always be legendary!

personally i would go with the EK

i have an EG - but the EK is newer and nicer - but slightly heavier

if i had a choice to swap my EG for an EK - i would do it tho

Not planning on engine swaps, its just going to be a daily.
EK gli's are out of my price range of 4k, looks like ill buy an e.g and save up for an ek4 vti-r
thanks guys

I just think that the EG looks a lot better on the outside, nicer curves. If you're going for a GLI daily driver though I'd get the EK one because it's a 1.6L instead of the 1.5L EG, and it's newer.

well it does seem like you are doing eg route for the jdm rep. when it comes down to affordability.

upgrade the motor to sohc vtec?
cheap and it doesnt blow out the: investment vs resale ratio
plenty of aftermarket support

thats it go get one now!:cool:

why would you get a eg gli when you have 4 k and can afford a eg si or vti
better features and specs

90LAN, sajadEG just answered your question for me
Soo hard to find a good condition one, and if you do find one they want 5k+ for a bloody 18 year old car.
Ek's are easier to find for some reason, and I will pick an EK if I find a GLI for the right price
But yeah I like the look of the eg more, if I can find a good vti eg I will get that
so the search continues
Looked at like 5 now and they all have rust, what's the deal with eg's and alot of rust.

nothing wrong with the GLi

look what i have done with it in my build thread - my D15 kills almost every D series iv been up against

the B series over shadow what you can really do with these engines on a budget

D16z6 intake manifold = $50
D16a6 Cam = $50
Adjustable Cam Gear = $150
Intake = $120
Headers = $160
Chipped ECU with P28 map and launch control = $100
Winnah!

ohh gawd this argument ahs been going on since 1995 when the EK was released... but IMO the EK is newer yes.. but it's also CHEAPER.. all of the finish is not as good, it lacks personality and is HEAVIER.

it really depends what you're plans for the car are.. they're both pretty much the same really..

huh? it says you got a DA9, why dont you drive that around atm while you save up for the EK4?

I hear alot of people say stuff like "ill get this car for now then get this later blablabla etc etc"

never happends. Might aswell just save up for your EK4 now. Im just saying.

Yes good advice. Run whatever car you already have, or a seriously cheap one ($800 Daihatsu Charade for exmaple) while you save up. Then buy your new car with cash first before selling your old one...

No car now guys..
DA9 is long gone thats why looking for a cheap daily
Solely the thread was supposed to be about what is a better daily, like for example what is a smoother ride. I'd assume the ek is being newer and a little heavier. My da9 was rattly and bumpy as shit but it was a light car so you can't expect it to drive like a lexus...
but then I got thinking about performance aswell.. an eg vti wud prob go alot better than a eg/ek gli. In the end I know not to expect too much from a little single cam 1.5 or 1 .6 litre car
I think based on affordability I will go an EG unless I can find a cheap EK GLI as I really am not a fan of the cxi's with no power windows or tacho

get cheapest eg gli you can find. dont think about performance.
DD = economy. not performance.
well, at least that's the plan hehe.

I like the look of this one : http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9977558&__Qpb=true&Cr=2&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32 |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294965250%20898&silo=1011&__No=45&seot=1&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=708&__sid=1285A1526902

However a bit overpriced IMO, hes asking that because of those mod's but I may aswell buy a stock GLi and do that myself for well under 3500.

Might be worth it if hell take 3200, 4500 no bloody way

P.S thanks for all the comments guys, TheSaint, Im intruiged into knowing the power of your gli with those mods that you've done?
