I'm thinking about a set of wheel for my EK1, but i'm not sure what size and a decent brand to look for?

I'm thinking 17's but all the craze these days are 15's and 16's, suggestions?

depends really, if its light weight forged rims, which are $$$$ in 17's than yea, something like buddyclubs P1 in 17's are fine, but if the typical bob jane rims, than u will notice that the steering is heavy and car mite feel more sluggish due to the weight of the rims

Also consider offset an width, which also have a impact on the vehicle behavior

But dont let others dictate what u should or shouldnt buy, if 17's look good in ur opinion than go for it, ur car :)

I like the whole 15, and 16 inch thing with some dish, but not over the top (hellaflush) style. I'm still not sure because i like the 17's too, and there's too many brands to pick from lol.

depends on what style ur after, If its stance/looks, go with 16's dropped, will look hella, check out the gallery, plenty of ek, all styles, jdm, usdm, vip....

generally speaking most places like jax quik fix, bob jane etc have pretty poor selections for hondas, with four studs, prbs better off seeing what some of the traders on here have, or look online

17's are a dying breed on civics, back in the days they were all the rave

But yeah, i'll have a good look around and see what i'll finally decide on!

Also, how expensive are Buddyclubs?

depends where u buy em new from, ebay is obvious the cheapest around, even importing em over seas to here, its the shipping that mite hurt lol, brand new buddy clubs can be anywhere from 1.5 - 1.8k new

Best bet is to find a set of 2nd hand buddy clubs, last time i saw a set, was around the 800-600 mark, dont be discourage because of the 2nd hand tag, 2nd hand parts are just as good as new, an especially with rims, ppl tend to look after them better than other stuff, just gotta know what to look out for, e.g. gutter rash

i personally wouldn't touch bob Jane rims, after actually feeling the weight of there rims, its ridiculously heavy lol

Doesnt jdmyard stock them? Just looked up on it, and i can't find any wheels. Mostly engine bolt-ons.

Uhh in jdmyards section on here they are hidden in the sportmaxx range because the xxr are a sportmaxx reproduction. :/

I found the about section, though it doesn't have a list of wheels / prices etc.

rota grids concave style look hot on ek's i think i've heard of rota's, are they easy to get a hold of?

Yes they are.

I think 17's are certainly the biggest I'd go on pre-2001 Civic. I had 17's on my EH9 and they were alright, bit of scrubbing though coz they were 7" wide. I think from now I'd only go 16" max.

Get some 15" Spring Hart CPR. There's a set for sale in the FS section. $1750 but totally worth it bro...

Woodzy if u want xxr series or anything with wide offset on your cAr I wouldn't recommend anything bigger then 16" and even if u go 15" and lower the car u will need guard rolling! If u need rolling contact me and I'll direct you to who did mine...

And jdmyard sells the xxr via eBay and are really the cheapest around.

People sell these as a second hand set but it's rare

Are you saying that with 16's, that you wouldn't have to roll the guards like you would with 15's?

Because i don't really want to play around with my guards at all, what offset would you recommend?

If i HAVE to roll them, i guess i would lol.

On 15 then yes u would have to on 16 lol really if your lowered your guards will need to be rolled.

I'm running +25 offset and it's perfect but I didn't want a massive offset coz I run mine on the street.

+20 Is really nice!

Seriously if you want different wheels with offset u need guard rolling lol if u get +40 u won't need rolling

What i'm after is a sensible size, offset etc for daily driving

mugen_ctr
29-01-2011, 07:46 PM
sensible is something like 16 by 7 +38 or even +25

205/45R16 tires will sit flat with em, an have decent amount of tread, wall height, an sit flush against the rim, zero stretch

Looking at some build threads with EK's with 16x7's, they sit really nice and look the goods. Though i'm not sure how the 17's would look like.

Just comes down to offset really, +38 is what i have, sits flush front end, rear end sticks under the guard to much, so im running spacers to push it out more, 8mm spacers

If ride comfort is a factor, id suggest those tire size as im running em on mine, its not to harsh, an still looks good

17's fill the guards out nicely on Ek's imho, but to impractical on a daily basis, 16's are the go with a daily

Originally i wanted to ride low with 15x8's, but it's too much hassle for a daily.

Might think about 16 with low profiles

i dont have a ek. but on my dc4 im running 16x7 +38 with 205/45/16's but about to slap on some kumho ku36 225/50/16 for that mean look
its great for daily driving, doesnt attract any unwanted attention.

What would be the lowest offset to avoid guard rolling?

i'm thinking 15x8 +25?

Come
On man!! I'm running that exact fitment and scrubbing like a bitch after getting my guards flared!!

FACT: if you do not want any issues with scrubbing stick to stock wheels or 15x7 +40 fitment.....

Rota slipstreams in 16's?

This is something i would like to know as well as i was looking at buying an ek1 gli and was looking at adding on the rota slipstreams in 16 x 7 4 x 100 +45

i imagine these would fit ok but if anyone else had any wheels that same size info would be sweeeeeet ^_^

I'm still not sure whether what size to get.

15's would be too small, would only look good with some dish and lowered.

16's or 17's for now!

I've been thinking, Rota are alright for what they're worth, some decent styles.

Thinking about Rota Boosts in 16x7 +42?

Grids don't look too bad either
