Guys.....><...i seem to be having the worst luck with this car. its not the car, its me...

went to my gf's place for Australia day around midday. went out to grab some pizzas at 5-6 ish. went home at about 10 and found this: (refer to attachment)

the odd thing was, there are no scratches on my car. the mirror wasnt flexed backwards (cu2 mirrors can be folded in both directions, so if it was pushed back it wud stay there. THe only scratch on the mirror i can see is this sliced off piece on the back UNDERSIDE of the mirror. and when i drove home, i noticed the glass was facing inwards, so it had obviously been pressed from the inner half of the mirror (towards the body of the car)

so all signs kinda show that it wasnt a hit and run because, no car body damage, no logical damage to mirror housing, the mirror housing hadnt moved, the glass was rotated INWARDS not outwards as ud expect when a car runs into it.

walking around the car, no other damage, so probably not vandals? (big open quiet st, although not in the best neighbourhood), right next to a bus stop, under a street light, 50m from a main road.

but it just looks like someone got a hammer and did two wacks, once on the outer half doing most of the damage, then once on the inner half, not so much damage but pushing the glass to face inwards

called up honda cause i happened to be going there tommorrow to fix my speakers.

$500 repair cause CU2 luxury uses Autodimming mirrors :(

so i was wondering, could i get it cheaper elsewhere? should i claim on insurance? however my excess is $700, and its not under my name (tho it doesnt matter cause it wasnt a car accident, so can just say my uncle parked it etc etc)

logicaly its obvious not to claim, but i was wondering, if i got all the paint scratches and that huge graze on the underside of my car (if u guys remember) repaired together. could that be all made as one claim? would actually save me $800. (i could probably claim my bodykit install as part of it too if they wrote the invoice correctly)

but ive never made a claim before, i dont noe how the process works. does the insurance company usually inspect the car? do u have to take it to one of their repairers? (the pds says u can choose ur own but there are certain parameters) is it even possible to claim two things in one go?
im with GIO

thanks for any input guys. feeling so sh*t today

rego is due tommorrow $450, gotta pay ctp $430, renew insurance in a week $1k and now gotta repair this ($500)

there goes my bodykit install money

is it illegal do drive with a smashed mirror? i can still see behind me....or i can use my mum's bathroom hand held mirror and tape it on lol XD

u can try hontoys in smithfield or gms spares, they mainly stock new model cars

yes it would be illegal to drive with a broken mirror but i dont think a cop would hassle you over it.

You could probably just get a glass replacement for the mirror from US ebay or something...

as Grifty said.

eBay is your friend.

And No, GIO wont put it under the same claim.... SO forget about insurance.

ah good tip how did i forget ebay. found a used one from the us for half price. thanks! gotta get it repainted tho. but at least its cheaper and probably can get it done with kit install

if i had multiple scratches around the car, like not from the same incident wud they put it under the same claim? i cud say it was a vandal who scratched my car and smashed my mirror?

Look here!http://www.campsieautoglass.com.au/specialist-services.html#Mirrors
If the outer part of the mirror isn't damaged this is a good option.

yeh the housing isnt damaged AT ALL. any idea how much it will cost? im looking at roughly $250 -$300 from the US + repaint (but probably will just wrap in CF vynl myself)

Same thing happened to me on my EG Civic. Someone obviously took a dislike to the car (for whatever reason) and smashed my mirror. Exact same MO. Go figure. Luck it only cost a few dollars to pick up a spare from the wreckers otherwise (like you) I'd really be pi$$ed.

Really sorry to hear someone purposly smashed the side view mirror. I thought lux CU2 using only the rearview mirror inside the car is auto dimming and the side mirror is excatly the same... Honda website or their brochure doesn't mention the side view mirrors for cu2 lux using auto dimming functions.... I may be wrong...

I think its illgal to drive with smashed oneside side mirror, you better check with RTA...

GOod luck..

Maybe something expanded from yesterdays heat and it cracked it.

INsurance companies pay for assessors for a reason... I cant even get a bit of scuffing on the same side of car under the same claim.....

i didnt know CU2 was a target for this kind of stuff.

If i were you i would get a second hand one or ebay it. then install /paint together with ur bodykit.

good news

the place tony suggested
i called up and they quoted me $45 for install and replacement
but because our mirrors are heated. they cant remove the broken glass without damaging the wires, so theyre gunna stick the new one over it. :S sounds a bit weird to me, but my mum (yes my MUM) said that makes sense.
going there at 3 today, hopefully they keep their word with the quote. might even grab some tint if i have time

lol i park in bexley/hurstville area and i dont think it was targetted, probably just got side swiped by a bogan falcodore
i parked 50m from an intersection and always see people flying past edging towards the kerb intending to turn left. this guy mustve been drunk on australia day and edged over a bit too early. needless to say i shall be parking across the road where the day care is :)

my mates dad who works for honda was going to swap over a mirror from a good car over to mine (lolz) but he quoted $450 to me, after he reassured me it was going to be cheap. oh wells

in the mean time, just stick a $5 round convex mirror over it so you dont get into trouble with the cops

I think we have the heated mirrors sorry. so it just heats up the glass so that it wont condensate on the mirror, they said not to take off the broken pieces because the heating elements are connected tot he glass i believe. This way the heat can pass thru the broken glass and heat up the new mirror

anyway, here it is all finished. a bit ghetto cause they litterally just wiped it, some flakes fell off. then slabbed on 3 hunks of thick black glue im assuming....didnt even spread the glue and stuck it on, secured with some tape. oh well i dont see how the heat is going to pass thru the three strips of thick glue, and the rest of the mirror isnt even in contact with anything. from the side u can see that there is a 5mm gap. but for $45 im not complaining! :P im not picky so glad to have it covered up.

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1920/img0292pv.th.jpg (http://img41.imageshack.us/i/img0292pv.jpg/)

also our mirrors are convexed (concaved?) but the replacement was flat. noticed that everything was significantly bigger and closer (which is more accurate) than before (wider field of view but everything is smaller)
i think i like it this way better cause sometimes i judge the distance wrong when merging.

For 45bucks it looks good!I would've got them to rip out all the broken glass and then replace it.you wont need or use the heated mirror function anyway.Doesn't get cold enough.

Guy's

Whilst on the subject of mirrors, for those that don't know, if you have the switch control for adjusting mirrors set to the LHS mirror and then put the car in reverse, the mirror will dip down so you can see kerb / lines to assist with parking. Am sure it works for both auto and manual (mines a manual and it works) Neat little trick by Honda

The auto dipping mirror in reverse is one of my favorite features in my Euro, one gets very used to it,and it works well...

yes, insurance can be funny with multiple damage. Ive just claimed a rear bumper (minor carpark bump) mangled plastic removed paint, needs new bumper and a side scrape across both pass side doors (bunnings carpark runner, thanks retards) because they happened at diff times, it means 2 claims and 2 excesses even tho they are being repaired at the same time :-(

easy, key both doors and rear lip. say u just want to fix the damagin from the key scratch, not the bump or the hit and run damage. but it just so "happens" u need the parts replaced in order to fix it. it occur at the same time and getting the other damage fixed was a bonus since the part had to be replaced anyway.

...theres always a way...

I wouldn't do these illegal claims anyway... Insurance companies are smart furythree.... GIve you an example, one dude in Doonside tried to claim his old car it was damaged by hailstrom by just hitting his car by goldball... INsurance company found out on that particular day there wasn't a hailstrom when that dude mentioned date and time when he tried to claim it. He was very sad at the end, just as of try to be greedy...

YOu may escape once claiming false claim, but can't do it always mate..
