Hey guys,

A couple of the guys in the "What did you do to your EK today" thread seem to be getting a little antsy that I've been posting on their thread, so here goes...

The name says it all... Post pics and info on the latest stuff you've done to your EG Civic here... I'll get the ball rolling -

Last night I put some JDM stickers on both of my front quarter panels due to hail damage from 2 months ago. Weighed up the option of replacement panels and the cost of getting them painted and considering the car was written off its just not worth it. I think these cover up / distract from the dents nicely...

lol... i know but its just my daily... i hate dents more than anything in the world... I was going to do a sticker wrap but i got a wedding to save up for atm and i'd rather replace the panels... then again i'm throwing money at a car and its not going to increase the value... might get another car after i'm not saving up for anything... lol i love those ebay stickers, they're so retarded..

curtis265
28-01-2011, 08:50 PM
I suppose so, but yer, just IMO, they tend to look more tacky than dents.. unless of course theyre band-aid stickers :D

57U-00
29-01-2011, 07:36 AM
lol... totally agree that they look tacky, but when every single panel is dented with every dent being at least 2mm deep, and $4000+ worth of damage on a $3000 car, i can't complain really...

ya know ya could bog/primer those dents up and respray it... easy as pie, painting would be the hardest unless you know what your doing. ill be putting up a DIY soon, dent repair and respray.

Theres a place down here in Sydney called 'Siba Car Carpets' its where i got mine.

$185 for both front and rear pieces in the plush cut pile. Loop pile stuff is abit cheaper but also feels like crap.

I see your in qld, look up knox auto carpets. They are melbourne based but ship aus-wide.

considered the option but i'm useless with paint and body stuff, and I don't know anyone that has those awesome skills... I'd have to take it to a body shop and pay top dollar which would work out at about the same price as paintless dent removal which is still too expensive... due to the number of dents it'd need a whole surface respray...

true. bogging is actually quite easy it only sounds difficult. you mix it according to instructions, apply it then when it hardens you sand it level. it is as easy as that. My first bog job i got the first mix wrong, aced the second and im usually not good with my hands. but i guess if you're not sure on painting dont do it... unless you wanna watch some youtube vids and diy's on resprays. its all quite easy if you have the right equipment. only thing is that it takes time

yeah? how good are ya at it?! lol i got alot of dents that need bogging and respraying... any pics of ur handywork? without turning this into boost losing (boost cruising) what sort of monetary costs are we talking... paint is paint - fair enough... but u sound like u got the equipment... if u feel confident and wanna make some cash u could always do mine lol... Last night I had to make a tough decision - because if I didn't I was going to drive myself insane...

My options - Abandon the civic and start saving for a different car (which could be suffering mechanically)

or

Pour f**k tonnes of money into the civic, knowing at the end of the day its still a civic and still only worth $3100 market value...

My decision - LET'S POLISH A TURD! Sorry to say but this car is the car that doesn't stop giving. I've had heaps of good looking and ugly cars that have just continually broken down. Beaten and battered from the hail this little car hasn't missed a beat and I think it deserves a make-over and some beefing up, so I'm going all out. This project will take years and years... So thats what I did today... decided to turn my poor little civic into a hot-hatch micro cruiser, and depending on time possibly a show car...

http://i489.photobucket.com/albums/rr258/57U-00/94%20Civic%20GLi/P1010910.jpg

I wish I could make her look like this again...

I like the wheels, it needs coil-overs!

57U-00

I like the wheels, it needs coil-overs!

lol... it needs more than that... it needs every panel replaced due to hail, the rims are bent so it needs new rims in general, and considering all the other crap it needs done first, coil-overs are nowhere on the list right now :(

jeremydawg

oh lol, yeah cosmetics more important. once thats done, get a half cut and do engine conversion then coil-overs! EG's look so good slammed

06-02-2011, 08:57 AM
dude there's so much hail damage its not even worth doing anything to it... i'd be better off just buying another civic thats already had all that shit done for what it'd cost me to fix this and then do the conversion to it... its pretty sad...

Damn that sucks! were you in logan when the hail hit? we had a huge hail storm here a couple weeks back. Have you tried one of those dent suction cups? its worth a try. might be able to get the smaller dings out

yeah, they want near $3K to get all the dents out... $2.4K if i get a new bonnet, but then I need to get the bonnet colour coded which is gonna push it back up to near $3K... to get the dents bogged and sprayed they want minimum of $4K because they'd have to do a complete surface respray... the car still goes so good... i haven't heard a non-vtec civic that sounds as good as mine...

jeremydawg
07-02-2011, 10:06 PM
^^^ Damn straight, bogging and sanding is so friggin easy, painting can be harder, its the prep work thats the MOST important. Get yourself a crap load of sticky tape and news paper... find an empty garage, Get a compressor and spray gun, decent paint and primer, clear coat. i have access to all these except an empty garage :( respray should cost 3k.

whole car had a home-job respray lol, not too bad actually, the bonnet is the only shit part, cause it had a huge sticker as a joke for like 12 months, which in turn faded a silhouette into the paint, but it had a few scruffs anyway, so gives me another excuse to respray..

another way this thing is hemorrhaging money from me.. lol

picked them up for 800 with original dc2r rails. driver side is mint condition and passenger side has slightest bit of bolster wear and one ciggie burn.
i switched them so i used the non mint one to keep the other one spanking new. =D

i grabbed the rear speaker grills off the other eg vti we got because it has speakers in the rear parcel shelf =D

well it is expensive to fork out that much money for seats, i was lucky enough my girlfriend got them for me =)
but if it wasn't for her i would never be able to justify that much money on 'just' seats.

The receiver drier? Ended up costing me $35.

Did you run a new feed of wire through to the door or did you just reuse the old/stock wiring?

Today i finally put my new carpet down ;)

I just ran the speakers off the old wiring as it was already aftermarket, pretty ****ing dumb actually cause they're coaxils and it's component wiring but everything seems to work .. I'll sort it all out eventually, this is just for the time being/short while, they're an improvement which is what I needed !

Stoogey

May i ask how the aftermarket wiring was installed?

I have been meaning to run a new feed of 12 gauge wiring to my doors. I usually go for the stealth method of running it through the rubber boot that goes from the side panel into the door but i have discovered that it actually isnt just a rubber boot. It ends as a plug that plugs into the door. So sliding wire through a plug obviously wont work, and it's a small area to work on so drilling new holes will be a big hassle.

I actually didn't look in depth, but from what I remember on my door, you should just follow the power for the windows, if your car doesn't have power windows that may be why it's plugged off ? If the thing your talking about is the wrippled looking tube, then I'm 99 % sure that's what mine were through.

Feel free to ask anymore questions, sorry if my answers suck haha.

jeremydawg
23-02-2011, 07:53 PM
^^^ good stuff! Good choice for sub aswell! the max ya need for a sound system is just a small sub. I cant stand it when people put like two massive subs in their car, its so dumb, and sounds like utter crap. Oh look at me my sub can make my mirrors shake hahahaha... Friggin tosser's! /Vent lols!

In fact if you had the perfect setup with good speakers, sound deadener, solid speaker mount's, good quality speaker's, amp etc, you wouldnt even need a sub. I have a small sub though, cause i cant be stuffed going all out with my sound system just yet lawl

the newer model eg's dont have individual wiring, they have a plug and play loom at the door hinge.
so i think thats what his saying.

so if that the case, the inside door loom is removable and u can tuck your 12 gauge wire through

^^ hahaha lols! yeah get a pack of tic tacs bra! Take your cluster out, FIRST unplug the clock and hazard blinkers. To take the clock out theres 3screws. Open the clock, youll see a purple sheet of plastic snap it out with a flat head or something, get super glue hold the plates on the 4 plastic poles down and put glue over the tips of the poles so your clock screen doesnt move around. Then glue your tic tac sheet on top, make sure its flat and not touching the four pole things. Let me know if any probz, should be easy as frak though.
Enjoy your amber clock sexy xoxoxox

thanks viinh for replying for me! =]

you can use any type of metal polish! mag polish.. aluminum polish.. just go autobarn supercheap and ask for metal polish! the brand mother is quite good =]

after using 2000 sand paper your metal piping should b very SMOOOOTTHHHH but looks very pale still.. that is because the sandpaper dust and and small dirt particles are still on the metal itself! by using polish it will clean all that off! use a microfibre cloth~ does wonders! the trick is too put a decent amount on ur cloth and go hard on the metal in one direction.. this allows the cloth/polish to collect the dirty particles off evenly and effectively.. you will notice quite easily cause ur cloth will turn BLACK and i mean BLACK. try to use 2 cloths... one to apply the polish on.. and a CLEAN one to wipe the polish off.. repeat this 3-5 times.. and you will get the mirror finish! give it a go! hell worth the effort! another trick is take ur time.. do it once do it right.. wen sand papering take ur time.. like me.. i went through 6 steps... 600 dry then 600 went and so on.

enjoy =]

Do the inside first bro, if your cars gonna look crap at least be comfortable inside it (like mine :D)

Cheap sound deadening isn't really worth it, the jarcar stuff isn't as dense as the dynamat/roadkill and the adhesiveness isn't there, so in hot weather it might not hold especially on vertical surfaces.

No need for 400 bucks bro, thats if you wanna go all out.

Dynamat have kits for specific sections of the car you can work on.

Speaker kit roughly $25-$35 (2x 10"x10" (254mm x 254mm) pieces of Dynamat Xtreme)

Front doors kit roughly $100-$120 (4x 12" x 36" (305mm x 914mm) pieces of Dynamat Xtreme)

Trunk kit roughly $160-$200 (5x 18" x 32" (457mm x 812mm) pieces of Dynamat Xtreme)

Bulk Kit roughly $240-$300 (9x 18"x 32" (457mm x 812mm) pieces of Dynamat Xtreme)

Roadkill is abit cheaper and in my eyes the same quality (the alluminium backing feels thicker even on the roadkill). JBhifi have the universal pack (2x 12" x 24" pieces) for $70, cheaper even if you catch them on a car audio sale.

If you want better sound, do the doors and block service holes first.

removing rear interior plastic is the easiest. and sprayig you dont need to primer or sand down. ive done it. since end of july till now its still good not faded.

KillerTofu
07-03-2011, 07:27 PM
geuss i better stop being lazy then eh! haha.

priority for now but is to fix the hatch rear window, put my exhaust in (squeel), and bondo + paint my window sills, they're letting the car down so much..

school holidays in a month or so, hopefully can do alot of diy'ing :)

jeremydawg
07-03-2011, 10:20 PM
^^ ya mang, respraying trim is soooo easy, ive done it many times. I reckon red carpet will look kinda crap IMO, plus if it gets dirty you can see it way more clearly than black, itll wear quicker too. black would look sick though. Buy a crap load of spray cans and do your interior black if ya want it to suit with the black carpet :D

Friggen tell me about it, previous place that serviced my car last (when it wasn't under my ownership) monkey wrenched the damn oil filter on and it took me about half an hour to take it off. In the end i just owned it with a set of big jaw pliers.

Ended up looking like this.

http://img40.picoodle.com/i52n/stoogey/jbmn_85b_u9u9l.jpg

Generally most oil filter wrenches/straps will do the job ok providing the previous filter was installed properly (ie. hand tightened). For the more complicated ones like mine, you should look at getting this

http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Super-Works-Oil-Filter-Pliers-63-5mm-x-116mm.aspx?pid=122172#Description

Should do most jobs sweet. I'm running a HAMP filter as well, oem ftw.

Jamie, never serviced your own car? Learn to. Trust me, it will help in the long run. Simple sh*t like oils, filters, plugs etc is very easy. If you need help just gimme a yell. Invest in a good set of tools as well if you havn't already, makes any job that much easier.

KillerTofu

repainted the parts that got stripped, installed, looks mint now!

i feel pretty much comfy in my interior.

things i would change in the future, would definantly be carpet, i might just go back to grey, so i don't have to respray all my interior peices, or i'd do it, depending how i feel/things turn out. Get my gauges, and maybe bulb swap.

as far as my car goes.. i think it's getting to the stage where i feel like i'm comfortable with it, and nothing MAJOR needs to be done.

Yeah off course, cd's, provided the music is of high quality will always crap over any digital media such as an mp3 player. I am quite anal with my ipod music, everything that goes in has to be very high quality otherwise it doesn't go in or i buy a cd of it. I used to do alittle bit of dj'ing and so i've gotten very used to cd's (not like kids these days that plug usb sticks into "cd dj players" and immediatley think they're dj heros..../whinge).

Hmmm.....in car vinyl player....

not really that.. more that i can't afford a head deck? rofl.

You can get a basic Kenwood with aux input for about $80-$100.

Yeah, i think i found a bit of treated olf rust just above where the bat is.

Cracked the metal and can see a bit of corrosion. It looks like its been cured so i think a little fill in it and i'll just keep my eye on it.

He talks his shit up and never delivers ^

Nothing wrong with using a bat to roll the fenders provided you take care. Get rid of that rubber lining, its not necessary

The rubber lining sounds like a bitch when rubbing against the tires... lol, i will use a heat gun for precautions to stop the paint from cracking hopefully... once on uni break, will attempt this ghetto trick :D
