so you just wet the filter with miniral turps then rinse with water, do i then wait for the filter to dry and then apply filter oil? do i have to wait after ive applied the oil?

I've got a APEXi filter wich is maintenance free, but now and then I give it a bit of a clean with a soft brush just to keep all of the big pieces of crap off from it!

Yep every you sed is correct, yeah wait abit for the filter oil to dry abit that way you can see the spot you missed, if so jus apply oil to that area.

Is it compulsory to add filter oil on the filter after cleaning ?

If it is a foam type filter , then yes. A paper element (usually oem parts) are
disposable , and metal mesh/ material filters like k+n require oil too

this is so the oil captures smaller dust particles

Ah right..

1.5 more question - does any filter oil matter ? or are they all the same ?

K&N filter oil I use, they go on special for $20 at Autobarn all the time

all very much the same, it's down to marketing mainly

I dont oil my filter anymore, for 2 yrs now.It clogs it up.

I simply tap it on solid wood for 5 minutes, making sure to remove everything,a soft bristle brush helps too.

Is the turps and water method any good for the K&N type of filters (metal mesh types) or just get the K&N filter cleaner tips.
Mine is dirty as F**K with insects and rubbish like that.

^^ That = at least 10%+ loss in performance.

Both methods of cleaning? or the dirty filter?

The dirty part :)

I can feel the difference from a clean to dirty filter.

If your using an oiled filter.. take care not to over oil it, because if you do there will be high possiblity that some will get sucked into the intake piping/maf/map sensor etc etc
