Hey guys,
I have driven a Honda civic EG which had it's engine changed to a red top 1.6 VTEC (B16C maybe???)

Anyway, I was amazed at how much traction the car had for a FWD. And at the same time Honda engines are alloy so they don't weigh much. I know they spin in the opposite direction of normal FWD cars but I also think that doesn't make such a difference in traction.

I was also told that with Honda cars it seems they have a lot of traction, but in reality what it is is the lack of torque to be able to spin the wheels easily.

I was also thinking the double wishbone suspension has something to do with it but noticed the car's front still lifted and came to the conclusion that this isn't it either.

Can someone enlighten me??

Light weight of the car? and the weight of the engine on top of the front wheels.

if its a red top 1.6ltr... its a b16b

Or it could just be a b16a with a ret rocker cover... its a common cosmetic =]

Check the block stamp... it will say b16a/b

The 1.6 hondas do lack alot of torque but are designed to be high reving engines, that is where the power is situated, not down low =]

if you have a b16b could it be you have an LSD? as are originally in the b16b. This might account for the traction.

Bastard!!!! *crys* :(

Well weq knows how to fix low torque probs, even if it is on a D. ;)

No guys the car isn't mine.
I had it for a few weeks a while back while I was getting work done to my car.

I have a 6A12 MIVEC in a coupe lancer CE (FTO V6 2L MIVEC)
I have a ralliart LSD, and I am pretty convinced the civic had more traction.

Though I do have loads more torque...

But are honda's in general known for good traction? A friend was telling me a friend of his with a DC5 Type can dump the clutch at 5000rpm and it will just chirp then take off. What's the reason?? I would expect it does have more traction

that just means the dc5r got gd tyres and the clutch bites well..

Is it as simple as that?
Good tyres??

Does anyone know for sure??

Engine over the front axle, stiff springs in the rear, LSD would help and good tyres will definatly make a difference. The lack of low end torque certainly works for less wheel spin in any car.
