Hi guys,

I have a1996 integra stock vitr with 190,000 clicks. After driving my friends car, which is also 1996 model but only 90,000 clicks,I feel that my car has lost about 15-20% of its original power. Mine does not smoke or make any funny noises.

What can I do to regain most of its original power or go better if poss.? My budget is $2000. should I spend the money on:

1. Getting a newer engine with less kms
or
2. Should Imake other modifications, like induction, headers and exhaust.

I live in S.E MELB. Any recommendations where I should take the car to get it all done??

Any advice would be gr8.
thanks

Could it be just a simple case of ign. timing being out and say excessive valve clearences? Not usre if you can get 20% less with just that though.

Major major service... try and clean everything out and see if you can find any bad parts

give it a full service... check your air filter 'n stuff. i was surprised at the difference a clean air filter made to booget's car.
and don't worry too much about the age, my car is now 210k and going alright :)

get your injectors cleanned, change your air cleaner and fuel filter and plugs if they need it. also have your tappets adjusted

The car may lose compression, try to do a compression test....

Your in VIC? take it to ART and get em to take your car for a test thrash and they should tell you whats going on...

Sounds like your car needs a full service, when was the last time you had one. It's betta to fix the problem before adding more mods to your car.

I had a Major service done at 160,000kms by Astoria Honda. Not sure how good of a job they did coz my car felt exactly the same after i got it back. Sounds like I need to get the injectors cleaned. How much will that cost roughly?

Could be anything, the age of the motor, could be getting tired, might need the air filter, injectors etc serviced or it could be as simple as it feels faster but it may just be in your head. I have driven mates cars and thought that they are fast than mine, lined them up at the drags and beat them, so make sure it is generaly slower.

could be the way you drive, could be the oil you use or how often it gets changed.
I remember driving an Integra that had been a business car had never been over about 4000rpm for the 200,000k's it had done.. We did an oil chnage and drove it really hard for a couple of weeks and the car spung into life again..

Try to do a major service, such as injector cleaning, valve adjustment, timing adjustment, change fuel filter, change oil...etc.
Hope you can get your original power!!

The head's probably carbon'd up a bit in the ports...

think you should test thrash the car yourself rather then let anyone else do it, have a full and good service then drive to say sorrento and drive it harder than you normally do. you might find on your way back that it would be better. thats what i did when i first bought my car.

if not, take it to a mech that knows what he is doing

I dont know how you can feel 15-20% horsepower loss, but I'd have to agree with everyone else in saying that you need to have a full service, something as simple as worn plugs or your timing slightly being out could cause it.

Do what Shaun said give it a good service, and a good drive and see what happens.

good luck

Maybe you've just gotten so used to the power? I would dyno it to be sure. Have the strap the car onto a dyno and attach the Lamda sensor to your tail pipe.

with that many kilometers ur compression would be low due to ring where and valves not sealing
