would it be possible to simply paint the rims black and put a few coats of clear over it?

or is there some kind of powder coating method that would produce something of similar finish?

thanks

The cheapest way to do it is to give your rims a light sand with a 800-1000 grit wet and dry sandpaper. Wash with some wax and grease remover the spray with a gloss black. This should give it a similar finish. I have sprayed a number of my rims and you have to take your time otherwise they won't turn out right. If you want a really good finish you would have to send them to get powder coated, depends how much you want to spend.

if you want them to be perfect you MUST primer coat your wheels before you paint them, after primer give it a light sand so its super smooth. If you have a compressor and a spray gun thats the pro way to do it. The paint for a spray gun is more expensive but worth it, when it comes to painting, what you put in is what you get... miss some steps, buy cheap paint, or slack off with sanding itll look like crap. If you dont have a compressor and spray gun you can still do it with a can, it just wont look professional.
