hey all, just about time to replace my tyres for my fd1..
it says on the site that they 195/65/15..
for dunlop sps 300e is $149..
i was wondering if i can fit 205/65/15?.. 205 seems to be alot cheaper..?
what other brand do you suggest? or running on atm?
thanks in advance for your help

if you know what's good for you, you will buy wider rims, since right now you're driving on the equivalent of horse and cart wheels.
Btw - always buy the best tires you can - tires save lives, if you don't believe me, I know coz I almost died on a wet night with the wrong tires.

The stock tyres are already a fat fit on the stock steelies. I wouldnt go wider as it would just look strange and im not sure if it will fit, got a feeling it'll be too wide for the steelies.
For $149 for 15' tyres, you have better options. However, the dunlop sp300's are an economy tyre therefore last you longer but not the best gripwise unless you drive really carefully and slow.
If you want tyres to save you money go cheaper, but for your own safety, i advise you to select a better set of tyres. Check out this thread for recommendations and prices.

I agree tires are a great investment. However no offense duffy, but was that situation possible related to speed? or someone else's fault?

just wondering why 205 is cheaper? if its wider wouldnt that mean its more expensive?
how does the codes work? 205/65 R15..
R15 is the rim size. 65 is the thickness from the.. and 205 is the length (plus the 65 from the thickness)..
correct me if im wrong?

the less common the size, the more expensive.
and yeap didier, speed was involved, but the tires would have made a difference.

205/65/15
205 is the width of the tyre (mm)
65 is the profile/thickness. its calculated by the percentage in relation to the width (65% of 205mm)
15 is the diameter ie. for 15" rims

why not upgrade your tires and rims to 17's?....youll be spending around 600+ for tires only...and add a little more and you can get an Ep3 rims with tires for less than 1k

still deciding what tyres.. would love a set of fd2 rims. (not the ugly 06 ones)...
with some decent tread.. would be fantastic.. =S..
what are the chances i can pick a pair up at the wreckers?.. how much do they generally charge for them?..
i got upgraded 15" rims from factory.. lol.. such a waste of money coming to think of it now.. lol
im from melb. =)

Just recently replaced the tyres on my 06 VTi. I hated the Dunlops, noisy, hard riding and aquaplaned at the smell of water. And totally stuffed after 38000km. And I am not a hard driver. Stayed with stock size, the range of pricing from $80 to $170 for budget to mid range. Settled for Mastercraft Avengers. New in Australia. USA built. So far very impressed. $130. Very quiet, handling wet and dry well, so far, and noticed better braking ability. Written 70000km warranty. To me, good value.
