gday, i have a eg, i am in the middle of engine change. why does my oxy sensor have 5 wires, other engine only 1(d16y4)?
cheers

shouldnt the sensor both be plug and play?
the mounts on both manifolds should be the same thread
all D series have similar exhaust manifold

cool,
so i canuse my oxy(or laf i think its called) on whichever manifold i end up using?
can other sensors be changed from engine to engine?
hope your not affected by the fires, looks bad
cheers

Do you have a VEi ?

yeah hes putting a D16y4 into a EG8 VEI

VEi uses a LAF sensor not an oxygen sensor

so does this mean i just use the single wire oxy sensor as the d16y4 is not vtec. or do i put the 5 wire from the d15z1 onto to the d16y4 manifold. what about connectors? help is greatly needed and muchly appreciated. originally eg8 would be obd1 correct? so does this mean i need a non vtec harness. there are a couple of extra sensors on the inlet manifold and the IACV (i think it is called) under the inlet is a different connector. both map sensor and tps look to be the same. i really would like to use the inlet manifold that came with the d16y4 as it is a lot larger than the one on the d15z1. but the d15z1 manifold has all the correct sensors and fittings. not that they may be needed as vtec is no more. thanks again, hope i dont sound to confusing.

you picked the worse combination of cars and engines lol
the VEi is a bastard to do a D > D swap and the D16y4 is a nightmare to swap into other cars without doing a OBD conversion lol

something that i have learnt the hard way over the last few days

you are exepriencing a trial by fire - please dont let it put you off hondas - they really are sick cars when you have the right setup lol

just need to get it going. i am now reluctant to swap inlet maifolds as the d15 is much smaller than d16 intake(by 15mm) but i dont know mwhat else to do

put the entire D16Y4 in as is, dont change O2 Sensors
see if your VEi Dizzy fits the D16Y4, if it does, it may be worth getting a GLi engine loom and OBDI ECU

I have an OBD1 D16 ECU if required. I'm sure ECU-MAN can modify it to suit your application.

how much is one of them, what about engine harness to suit? would that harness match up with d16 dizzy, injectors, idle control etc.. irealy dont want to change inlet manifold.

you can use a D15B7 or D16Y1 engine harness on the D16Y4. as long as its OBDI it will match a OBDI distributor and connect to the shock tower connectors.
I have a D16Y1 loom to sell if you need it.

fhanks guys. today i picked up a y1 head and manifold, which i will put on the y4 bottom(been told this is a mini-me?). the y1 is obd1 and all sensors/connectors seem the same. one difference, there is no TA sensor on the manifold. i dont think this will matter to leave unplugged. is this right or do i have to connect it to something? otherwise it should be a straight swap onto the y4 and then easy install into eg, right? thanks for your help, slowly getting my head around it.

you must run an IAT weather its in the intake arm or on the intake manifold.

could you please explain this a bit further please.
iput my harness on the y1 and everything matched perfectly.
the only differences are the oxy/laf thing, the EGR valve was not there so nothing to connect to, air intake temp sensor is missing from y1. is this what you are talking about?
in regard to the other 2 problems, should i put my laf sensor into the y1 manifold, or leave it single wire(i would have to change connectors to do this)? and
can i leave the egr connector unplugged? thanks for your help

D16y1 runs the IAT on the intake manifold whereas D16y4 runs it on the intake arm. If you're using a y1 head and wiring loom, best option for you would be to run it as per factory on the intake manifold.

your Y1 maifold will have an IAT, you should ensure this is wired.
you should run the 1 wire O2 and connect it to the ECU via one of the wires from the LAF, you will have to find the wire that goes to the ECU OBDI (http://b16a2.kicks-ass.net/diy/pgmfi/ecu/PGMFI-pins1-2.jpg) = C14
you can read more about the IAT here http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67515
no need to wire up the EGR
