Hi All,

I am thinking of getting this (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260657937448&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) kit for my 2005 Honda Accord Euro and wondering if that setup would be legal in NSW?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260657937448&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Thanks.

Its only legal if it came with HIDs stock from the factory and if you change the watts has to be to a certain limit and yeah i think its 6000K

Ive had 6000K HID kits before and seen them on many, havent seen, heard , or had any grief from sydney cops , just aslong as they dont blind people driving towards you or infront of you. As that will definitely gtab attention. Anything that is an alteration to a stock car is pretty much illegal. Get 4000K if your real woried.

Ok how about if I only change the bulbs to good quality xenon ones, like one from this Philips range (http://www.lighting.philips.com.au/v2/automotive/value.jsp?id=1082188&applictionID=12571), without the ballasts and the rest of the setup? Would that still also be considered illegal?

oh really, I did't know that you see coz I am still to pick up the car from the dealer this weekend. In that case I think I will go for the full kit coz I really didn't want to get something that was going to be unsafe.

Thanks all for your support to newcomer :)

If you don't have washers on your front bar, even if you have projectors, HID's are illegal.

This has been answered many many many times.

Many people still do it (including me) and haven't had problems as long as you adjust them.

Adjust them to point slightly lower right? Or is there any other sort of adjustment needed?

****, once again a heap of people posting what they dont know about.

Heres the rules.

If that car didnt come with HIDs out of the factory, then it is illegal to retro fit them.

Even if a higher spec model came with them, and yours didnt, it is still illegal.

thats it, plain and simple.

As above, it applies to pretty much every mod on your car.

If it didn't come like that from factory, it's illegal.

That's a bit too generalising don't you think?

Surely some aftermarket mods as totally legal. What if you just stick some side skirts on? :)

That's why the RTA puts together regulations to control what can and can't be done.

If the cop wants to be picky (as said everywhere) he can pretty much rape you and get away with it (most of the time) unless you chase it up in court and what not which is a big head ****.

everyone seems to be hiding their ballasts when they have hids. what do u tell the cops when they ask u to pop up ur bonnet , see no ballast but the colour of ur headlights are like blueish white ? do they even ask ? lol

yeah i stuck my hid kit to my condensor on the dc2, plus i wiretucked the cables from the kit. Ive been pulled over plenty of times with no questions ever asked about the lights. It really depends on if they see the lights as blinding or not, hence why projectors are much better on your eyes.

It all comes down to the cop.

I've been using HID's in my cars for 3 years, no problems at all.
