So all the teams have revealed their new cars for 2011.
A few rule changes with the inclusion of KERS and also adjustable rear wings and also Pirelli as the new tyre supplier means that all teams are starting from scratch again..
Hope to see MW competitive in this years competition too - but i am also hoping that Roseberg and Mercedes GP up there at the top too..
A handful of rookies also this year should make this year exciting..

who believes that teams like ferrari (used bridgestone) had an advantage over most of the teams like mclaren(who used michellin) , when bridestone became the tyre supplier ?
1900-hustler
10-02-2011, 09:07 AM
i dont think it was much of an advantage as back then they had no cap on testing and that so big teams like mclaren had a sh*tload of cash to be able to carry out pre-season testing and analysis to modify their cars so suit the bridgestone tyres when they became the sole supplier in 07.
besides that year raikkonen only won the WDC by 1 point from lewis hamilton and alonso was 3rd - so i wouldnt say they had an advantage over mclaren.. but other teams that didnt have such a big budget would have been less competitive coming from a car setup for michellen tyres..

Renault confirm Heidfeld as Kubica stand-in
Renault have announced that Nick Heidfeld has joined the team, taking over driving duties from the injured Robert Kubica, starting at this week’s test session in Barcelona. It follows his evaluation at Jerez last week.
The 33-year-old German is one of the most experienced drivers in Formula One, having started 172 races over the last 11 seasons. He will race alongside Vitaly Petrov when the new season gets underway in Bahrain on March 13.
“I would have liked to come back to Formula One in different circumstances, but I’m proud to have been given this chance,” said Heidfeld. “Everything has happened so quickly, but I’ve been very impressed by what I have seen so far in terms of the facilities and the dedication of the people at Enstone.
“I really enjoyed the test last week in Jerez and I’ve already settled in well with the guys at the track. I have a good feeling for the car, which is quite innovative. I’m extremely motivated and can’t wait for the season to begin.”
Renault team principal Eric Boullier commented: “The team has been through a very difficult couple of weeks and we had to react quickly. We gave Nick a chance in Jerez last week and he really impressed us. He’s quick, experienced and is very strong technically with his feedback and understanding of the car.
“We always said the priority was to have an experienced driver in the car and we feel he is the ideal man for the job. We are pleased to welcome Nick to the team and look forward to a strong start to the season with him and Vitaly in Bahrain.”
This week’s four-day test at Spain’s Circuit de Catalunya begins on Friday. Heidfeld will be at the wheel of Renault’s R31 on Saturday and Monday, with Petrov in the car on Friday and Sunday.

Bahrain withdraws from hosting 2011's opening round
The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) today (Monday) announced that the Kingdom of Bahrain would withdraw from hosting this year’s F1 Grand Prix race so that the country can focus on its process of national dialogue.
Last Friday, Bahrain’s Crown Prince - HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa - initiated a new national dialogue involving all sections of Bahraini society in order to resolve the current political situation in the Kingdom. The Crown Prince informed Formula One’s Bernie Ecclestone of the BIC’s decision by telephone earlier today.
HRH Prince Salman said:
“At the present time the country’s entire attention is focused on building a new national dialogue for Bahrain.
“Although Bernie Ecclestone had graciously made clear that a decision on the race was entirely Bahrain’s to make and was not yet required, we felt it was important for the country to focus on immediate issues of national interest and leave the hosting of Bahrain’s Formula 1 race to a later date.
“I would like to extend my personal gratitude to Bernie Ecclestone for his support and understanding.
“After the events of the past week, our nation’s priority is on overcoming tragedy, healing divisions and rediscovering the fabric that draws this country together; reminding the world of the very best that Bahrain is capable of as a nation once again united.”
Chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit, Zayed R. Alzayani said:
“Bahrain’s Grand Prix is a time of celebration and hosting the race is a source of great pride for Bahrain and Bahrainis. It is a showcase to the world and we look forward to welcoming the teams and drivers and everyone involved in Formula One back to Bahrain in the very near future.
“I hope that F1 and our friends around the world will understand our decision at this difficult time.”
Following the Crown Prince’s decision, Bernie Ecclestone commented:
“It is sad that Bahrain has had to withdraw from the race, we wish the whole nation well as they begin to heal their country.
“The hospitality and warmth of the people of Bahrain is a hallmark of the race there, as anyone who has been at a Bahrain Grand Prix will testify. We look forward to being back in Bahrain soon.”
No decision has been made on a new date for the rescheduling of the race, which was due to take place from March 11th to 13th.

Soo yeah that was a pretty eventful race...
As expected Seb smashed the field and was pretty convincing ..
Hamilton was also on pace which is a good indication that they will be competitive all year long..
Petrov put in an epic drive for 3rd - looks like that Lotus Renault will be up there also (its a shame we wont see Kubica driving it)
Webber was pretty gutted and understandably so - poor guy, cant catch a break in his home GP..
Sauber are appealing a disqualification on both their cars for infringements on their rear wing design.
Its a shame as both Perez and Kobayashi drove well - couldnt believe Perez did a 1 stopper! (could be cos of the rear wing though LOL!)
So the provisional results are as follows:

IMO neither of the torro rosso guys have done anything special this season. But even though it's happened before, I kinda don't think STR are gonna drop one of the 2 to make room for Daniel. I think he'll be in the car from the beginning of next year.
Although I think finishing the race, ahead of liuzzi and the virgins will definitely do good things to chances :)
Also fingers crossed Mark can finally stick it to Vettel this weekend. The red bull is going to absolutely dominate at silverstone, that thing's an absolute bullet in the high speed corners.

good race from alonso - but i wonder if it was a complete dry race how they would have gone on the prime tyre..
gutted for webber at the end too
i understand the teams point of view but yeah its pretty clear where he stands at RBR
should have let the boys race - i'm pretty sure it would have ended up the same way but at least webber would have felt like a driver rather than a pawn..

Good race at Singapore, solid drive from my dude Seb again, Suzuka will be a great place to wrap up the WDC. What did you guys think of Massa v Hamilton? jeffreymui
26-09-2011, 11:02 PM
hamilton has no concern about other driver's situation, yes he is a good driver, but he needs to be more patient on overtakes, not wreckless overtakes like ayrton senna vs prost. Until webber can improve on his launches at the start, he has no chance at all, unless seb has a problem in his car or he crash out, looking forward to japan.......

dee-y
28-09-2011, 02:32 PM
Previously no, but this season he has been very solid, def a successful season. IMO it was Hammys fault, but as you said it's def his style of racing and he has to be patient. Lol def can't imagine him doing what Senna did to prost in 90 Suzuka.
What did you all think of Massas action in the hammy interview? Man under pressure me thinks.
FDBenni
30-09-2011, 12:21 PM
I think Massa is really over rated but I'd be frustrated too if someone ruined my race. Webber really needs to work on his starts and qualifying times, his race pace is good though. Not sure if its the tyres or he struggles to drive the car confidently with DRS open but his times are no where near Vettels time in qualifying.

Ferrari better get their shit together with next years car. It's so frustrating being an Alonso fan, he's at the absolute top of his game right now but without a good car can't do shit. Arghhhh.
Can't wait till next march! Anyone going to be in Melbourne for the season opener?

YES I surely am! I am also an Alonso fan, and yes it is frustrating. He's driven the wheels off the F150. IMO a successful season for Fernando in the circumstances, a car that should be technically 5th being 3rd most likely, and destroying Felipe.

seb fan or not - you cant say much bad about him or the team
i think RBR have been pretty fair (compared to last year) and seb just stepped up his game
made webber look pretty ordinary all year and left the other teams in his dust..
people still give him sh*t about him not being able to overtake (including myself lol) but when your leading races you dont need to overtake anyone !!!
(yes i am aware you overtake back markers but you got blue flags for that :p)

yeah i'm a nando fan also - still rate him as one of the best drivers in the modern era (taking down schumi in his prime!)
and yes i will be at the opening race in melbourne! yahhhhhhhoooooooo

Gotta agree with you there man, can't really fault RBR or Seb this year.
I have a feeling Webber will be stronger next year, I dunno I just feel that last year took so much out of him and this year he kinda seemed content picking up the No.2 role... Fingers crossed he comes out swinging next year and atleast wins a couple races...
Yewww Ozhonda meet next at the GP for sure hehe
Its been a hard year for Ferrari and Fernando fans after missing out with just 1 point last year to this year were the 150th just could not compete with RBR.
Hopfully next year will be the start of FA's comeback!
I cant wait till next year, we have GP passes again and am ready to finally get Alonso's Auto graph, was lucky enough to get a photo with Felipe this year and also got Sebs autograph and ahd a chat to him about his hair, lol, but I missed out on alonso's lol well hopfully next year!
Forza Ferrari!!

Every seb basher will always bring up his overtaking and "real" driver qualities, but as you said he's just been too good this year! Team mate is your nearest and closest comparison, and well... don't think we need to explain that lol.
No bias opinion (some of you guys probs won't believe that lol), but his overtake on Nando at Monza, was to me overtake of the season, thus far.

There are some rumours floating around that Honda might supply engines to McLaren in the nearish future. Wouldn't that be great? McLaren man Jonathon Neale dismissed it of course, but not very convincingly.

Yeah i read that too...
its kind weird and cool at the tsame time..
F1 seems to be entering a nostaligic period... Nearly 2 decades on we are sort of returning full circle
renault reusing JPS lotus livery/Senna back onboard
williams reinventing Rothamns livery
2013/14 turbos back
possibility of honda/mclaren relationship happening again (last time honda supplied mclaren turbo motors they swepth the floor)
next year we have the reuniting of williams with renault...
etc etc...
good times we have ahead of us

Should be an intriguing season for sure. I personally do like the new noses, though the f2012 isn't the best looking. Looking forward to seeing how the RB8 goes wihtout blown diffusers. Very keen on watching the ICEMAN back in action. Anyone going to Albert Park?

Here's an interesting page analysing the RB8. http://formula1techandart.wordpress.com/2012/02/11/red-bull-rb8-analysis-crazy-enough-to-stand-in-front-of-the-bull/

As a Senna fan it will be interesting to see what comes of Bruno with Williams. Can't say i'd be envious of the expectations...

He's definitely not his uncle, but then he doesn't have to be. With a consistent car he should be able to show everyone what he can really do which will be good to see

I think everyone expects him to be, that's why there are such high expectations of him, which really isn't fair.
Although Ayrton himself did rate him haha
