i have eg d15z1 vei, engine(head was done 20km before) not going anymore.
bought ek d16y4 with the idea of changing drivelines(maybe computer).
my first honda so i have learnt the hard way.
to put the d16y4 into the vei eg is proving a massive headache.

what engine could i get to make my life easy?
tried looking for replacment d15z1,but had no luck that is why i bought ek.

has anyone got ideas, or maybe d15z1?
does anyone need ek parts?
does anyone want to swap?

as little as possible, already outlayed for an ek thats no use to me. if i can trade/swap or sell parts from ek that is my budget. dont know anyone looking for d16y4 with 5 speed only 144xxxkm.

im pretty sure you will need a obd1 to obd2 conversion harness
and going from vtec to non vtec so need the computer from the d16y4.
theres not too much involved but should of gotten a d16y1 or a d16a8.

yes i know that now, this is my first honda, normally work on clevos. d16y4 is not obd1 or obd2 that is the biggest problem.

d16y4 is obd2 yes

to put it into a eg - the general thing is this. You will need d15b7 or d16y1 parts.....inlet manifold , throttle body , water pump-to-thermo housing pipe + lines , ICAV FITV , distributor etc etc. And ofcourse all the usual OBD1 wiring loom etc.
Ive done it on 2 cars - imo no real point unless u get the d16y4 motor for cheap and have a blown d15b7 or d16y1 qnd can use the bits !

if it is obd2 why are the connectors different? i have a vei(vtec-e) eg that it is going in,this is obd1 right? all the parts you mention, why can i not take them from my d15z1. sorry if this is a stupid question, but this is my first honda(starting not to like) and i need it going. whats cheapest and easiest? ecu with d16y4 is p2k. with d15z1 ecu p07

if it was obd2 could i use an adapter harness? dont know if they even make them,

the cheapest and easiest engine to put in the car would be a D15b7 out of an EG Gli

bennjamin may be able to help you do the conversion though

the reason u cant use the VEi parts is because they are different to the y4/b7 - and the D16y4 is a strange sub-version of OBD2

what a headache - cant wait to see this complete lol

so inlet manifold from z1 will not fit y4? how much for b7, do i need ecu, etc with that as well? are all the connectors the same?

Out of curiosity, do you need to swap those parts over SO you can use OBD1 wiring loom? Is that the main reason?

Isn't it possible to keep those parts, run OBD2 engine wiring and re-wire to suit? ( I dont have any experience with OBD2 so interested to learn)

It's actually to run a obd1 ecu. Obd1 ecu needs to see icav - fitv runs directly off the icav so they are teamed up.

hey, can i use a complete d16y1 head, inlet and exhaustmanifold to solve my problems? mine was a vei so already had vtec, right? no more wiring issues? i just have to change water piping on y4 to accomadate the y 1 head? waiting for answer before i pick the head up

Yep thats what I meant wiring and ecu. But what if he wanted to run OBD2 (D16y4) ECU using a conversion harness, wouldn't he be able to keep all the original y4 manifold, tb, disti, etc

yeah fore sure....but that would be a hell of a lot of rewiring to do !

the connectors for the ecu on the y4 do not appear to be like obd1 or obd2. so how would the obd2 adapter work?
