Hi all

I just spotted these on ebay and thinking of buying what is peoples opinion of having the speakers in this location was wanting to have 3way splits up front instead of using the normal 2ways with the woofer in the door and tweeters up near mirrors.

thanks

what drivers will you be using? what amps/processing will you have on hand? do you have the experience & knowledge on how to tweak an active 3-way (or even just active 2-way) system?

with 3-way you can potentially make it sound better, but you can also make it sound a lot worse if you dont know what you're doing. a well setup 2way will sound better than a poorly setup 3way.

at this moment, if you have to ask, then start off with 2way. learn and gain experience before you jump into an active 3way setup. crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run.

btw those kicks in your ebay link dont have any angle on them.. makes them kinda pointless if you wanna tinker with mid-range angles & positioning. will you be modding them once you buy them?

Wouldn't bother bro.. there doesn't seem to be any angling of the speakers towards ear / listening height.. having the tweeters cross-firing down so low would lose heaps of frequencies in between the footwells. The box doesn't seem to be sealed either, so you wont get much punch from the woofers

If you have the skills to mod them, you could angle them up to fire at ear level, but would prob be better off making some up from scratch.

Better off with a set of 2 ways, with the woofers in the factory location, and the tweeters up higher in the cabin on the a-pillars or doors.

Crossovers not a problem ahve mucked around with that stuff before in previous rides. Would like to have 3way set up with speakers close together as i believe you get a better sound that way. Never a big fan of woofer down low in the door and tweeter up high near mirrors too far apart which then causes a hole as the frequency shifts.

Interesting article here on 2way vs 3way FYI http://caraudiomag.com/articles/two-way-vs-three-way-component-speakers

theres more to it than just adjusting the crossovers. so you have a dsp or hu with time correction/alignment, yes? will the crossovers provided in your hu/dsp be compatible with your selected drivers?

mid-bass in door & tweeters up high on dash/sails/pillars will be fine if you have a capable mid-range positioned on-axis to cover the majority of the FR. or a tweeter thats plays down low enough to not have a noticable hole/separation.

but that all depends what drivers you plan to use & what hu/dsp you have.. so ill repeat: what drivers will you be using? what range of the FR will they be able to handle comfortably without straining themselves? what amps/processing will you have on hand? thought about angling the mid-bass drivers? (majority of mid-bass drivers play into the mid-range with ease, combine that with a tweeter that can play down to say ~2khz and you dont have to go 3-way or worry about 'cohesion'. whats your budget? whats your goal? you need to provide more information before anyone can advise on anything. and have an extra think about what you wanna do & why.

dont get those ebay no-angle kicks for the sake of em, especially if they dont suit your application.
