Given a container of petrol, how would you tell if it was E10, Regular Unleaded or Premium Unleaded? Is there any way to test the octane rating? At work, we get a lot of petrol coming through and I've never taken any to put in the DC5R as I'm not sure what petrol it is.

ULP is a purple colour, PULP is yellow. hard to tell the difference between E10 and ULP as they both have the same dye.

Unless the fuel is fresh out of the bowser - I'd quickly disband the " test the fuel by it's colour" idea.
Fuel grabs all sorts of impurities from filters , fuel lines , fuel tank sludge etc. And this can change it's colour ! My 98 in my fuel tin at home is a nice brown black !
