Hey guys,

I'm looking to replace the stock speakers and head unit currently in my dc2 vtir and I was hoping you guys would be able to give me some advice. Mind you know I know absolutely NOTHING about car sound systems.

I don't really want to put an amp or a sub (I know everyone says I should) as I believe the speakers should be enough. I'm not exactly after something like a home sound system, just something good to replace the stock ones.

I would want the speakers to be able to product clear treble and some decent bass. I went to Strathfield and tried the Alpines off the wall, I think it was the CDE-121E head unit with SPS-600 and SPS-609 speakers, and it sounded really good even without an amp or a sub.

I know it does not mean it will sound the same in a car but that is the sort of... benchmark I'm looking for? Also what size are the speakers?

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!

I dont know that much but since you will be powering the speakers off the headunit, dont waste money on getting speakers that RMS wattage are too high. Headunits i'm sure are 50w peak i think.
I guess it all depends on your budget too.
Are you goign to install it too?
I think the front speakers are 6incha nd the rear are 6 or 6.5" if im not mistaken if your looking for an easy install.
Those speakers are very good i was planning on getting the exact ones but with a 4ch amp .
Either way regardless of what you get it will sound better than stock :)!

budget? location?

dont fuss over diameter size, that can be fixed with a spacer. id worry more about depth/clearance, which -again- can be fixed with a spacer.

if theres advice to be given here its: 1. focus on the fronts and 2. get a door kit of sound deadner

I'm in Sydney and my budget I say would be about ~$600 (friends will help install).

Went to JB HIFI and listened to the Alpines again... sounded nothing like at Strathfield? wtf!?

So tested the Kicker 08KS600, had pretty good sound and bass. Anyone got experience with Kicker?

So I went to Autobarn today and listened to a brand I had never heard of before called JBL. It sounded really good so I asked my friend he recommended I get them... so I did.

I will install them soon then let you all know how it goes. Wish me luck! =)

I haggled my ass off to get everything for $700.

But I just went onto the Ryda website, and realised I could've probably got it for around $600.

...sad

Edit: No I don't want an amp or sub woofer. I just want to replace the four stock speakers and nothing more. Well except for the tweeters which it comes with.

After some tedious work, rainy weather and the help of some friends. We have successfully put the headunit and speakers into the car.

However there is a small minor issue. The tweeters seem to make a static sort of "zzzt zzzt" noise when playing the treble. Would anyone have an idea as to why?

The system will never be 'optimal' while running 70w speakers through a 15w source... Id say you have crossed the output signal with a power wire, or dont have a sufficient earthing point..

Too many variables to tell what the problem may be, noise 'gremlins' can be terribly frustrating and hard to solve. Only thing i can suggest is to try another earthing point (black wire from HU) having sanded the connection point back to bare metal, run new power via direct from battery, or run new audio cables to the xovers..

You may also notice you aren't getting any bass notes from the speakers, those mids don't play below 50Hz. Not much you can do without adding an amp and sub to the setup.

It sounds fine playing from CD. But you can hear the noise "gremlins" via USB and bluetooth.

Bass doesn't seem to be a problem, it's got pretty decent base for speakers.

Haven't tested AUX, but will soon when I can find a cable.

"zzzt zzzt" lol

if you & your friends cant troubleshoot & solve it then take your car into a specialist/store/person who can PHYSICALLY check things over for you.

could be a bunch of things.. its kinda hard to diagnose from just "zzzt zzzt".
