Today I was draining the oil so I could put new engine oil in. When I went to screw the plug back in I noticed it would tighten then when I go to tighten it more it would loosen up again.

So I'm assuming the Sump Plug screw's thread has worn out by the looks of it? What causes the screw's thread to get worned out? Is it the heat from the sump which can make the thread worn out?

And how much are the Sump Plug screw from the shops? And will a new screw fit perfectly?

Thanks!

did you use a new washer ?

Well the screw I had a look and the thread is completely fcuked. Though I did not use a new washer, can I ask why should you use a new washer?

Ta!

A new washer is essential in all oil changes. Don't ask me why though! haha

The plug will cost ya $6 something from Honda spare parts. What a rip!

you need a new washer as this washer crushes and forms a seal when you tighten the sump plug.

But it sounds this is the least of your worries - whoever did the last oil change has over tightened the sump plug and its stuffed the thread on both sides ( sump and plug ) you will need it to be either cleaned up and rethread , or just get a 2nd hand sump to suit.

@ Benjamin

Is my Sump f**ked aswell?
I thought I would only need a new screw since the thread is worn out on it?

Usually it's the threading on the sump that gets damaged as it's made of aluminium which is softer than the metal the plug is made of.
Look carefully at the bolt to see whether it's threads are actually damaged, or whether what you're seeing is the sump's broken threads stuck between the bolt's threads.
You can either get a mobile thread repairer to fix it, or replace the oil pan like Bennjamin said

It's going to be the sump not the bolt as above - aluminium vs steel. Someone overtightened it once.

The reason why you don't know you need a new washer is because you are guessing how to do things. Get a workshop manual.

As stated, get a new plug and washer, see if that is good enough to fit on, if not, you'll need to fix sump as stated.

if its not that bad, just borrow a thread file and clean it up
