Just wondering if anyone here has ever fitted a HID projector, ballast, ingnitor, bulbs from another oem car. e.g. Audi HID projectors to thier integra's??...
y would u want to do this mate? they cost quite a bit... better off buy after markets ones...

after market kits u buy that are plug and play are crap... they dont last long, they dont come with projectors, just the ballast, ignitor, bulbs and the harness that comes with the kit.
1. the kit utilises the stock projector inside the headlight which is not design for HID bulbs this will produce a really crap light output with a poor cutoff line. Poor cutoff line will blind on coming traffic.
2. Kits comes with harnesses that are simply plug and play, meaning u just plug it into ya headlight plug and thats it. But the problem is, the HID might run for 2 -3 years fine, but it will slowly die. OR it may fry ya cars factory wiring. The bulbs of HID units require a constant 35W to run, but in order to get them started the ballast needs to draw alot of current. Normal halogen bulbs required 7Amps and ~4.7Amps continuous. Where as the HID ballast requires around 13Amps+ to get started. Over time the constant high current consumption will fry a circuit.
So using an oem HID unit from another vehicle and retro fitting it on the honda headlight will produce better lightsource and safer for on coming traffic.
:D
oh well... then good luck with it...

HID's are illegal unless the car came with them from factory...
just letting u know before u spend a few hunder bucks on it then get dicked by the cops
anything thats nice is likely to be illegal

what's to say that the factory HID doesnt work the same way as aftermarket, and wont 'slowly die' in much the same way?if you go with a reputable brand, i dont think you will have many problems with the life of the unit at all.
the circuit in the ballast is designed to operate in that manner, so i highly doubt that it would 'fry'.
the only advantage of doing a retrofit of projectors is the cleaner cut off from the lens. light output is still very high and if aimed correctly, you wont be blinding too many people..
+ DC2 already has projector headlights.

Dc2 has projectors designed for halogen bulbs.. not HID bulbs.
HID projectors will give cleaner cutoff, HID using halogen projectors will not give a clean cutoff like HID using HID projectors.
U missed my point, ballast require a high current to initial startup. If you draw too much current from a very thin wire YOU WILL fry wires. Thats all im saying, you can use HID Kits if u like, its up to you.

i have seen HIDs on stock DC2 headlight housings, and the cut off is VERY clean.
I am using a philips HID kit at the moment and have absolutely no problems with it whatsoever.
the OEM HIDs ALSO USE A BALLAST. they're not just bulbs.
the HID kits plug into the headlight connector as a switch, but draw current straight from the battery at start up through a relay. nothing will fry. you're too paranoid.

yeh i know the the OEM HID also uses a Ballast otherwise it wont work.
So the phillips ones you've got are hooked up to the batteries is it and is triggered throught a relay. Is there a plug on each ballast that plugs to each oem headlight plug? Because if it is then it is not running straight from the battery, its powered by the oem headlight powersource.
Oh do you have any pics of your HID at night Mrthanh?

Both Steve and Thanh are correct in their individual respects. All the points Stevo put forth are 100% correct and ppl should be wary when purchasing any P&P kits... however Thanh is also correct in his comments regarding the DC2 projectors and the reliability of good quality kits.
I'll let you know in a few weeks.... :)

ah ok thanks mrthanh... if thats the case then thats the good 1.. cause there are some out there which utilises both headlight plugs which means thet are running straight off the headlight wires.
Ok guys....
ive got a kit on my dc2....and i dont think they come straigth off the battery....ive had no trouble at all yet.....but will these sooner or later fry the wiring.....what should i do??

hey thanks for giving an example jrc
Yup so i think in your instance.. your ballast is plug directly into the oem headlight plug for the left and right headlight correct?
If this is the case then, if your hid lights up then its ok... but it will prob. last for around 2-3 years.. If not if might run ok now.. but when u put alot of load on the car and drawing more current than is supplied down the headlight cables... which i think are 20 gauge (dont quote me on this) it will burn.. or which ever the cable is weakess..
Yea i think thats right....the wires were just cut and then plugged into that ballast for both sides then....the wire goes to the actual projector......ill try and get a pic tonight.....
What can i do bout this??

buy new wiring and go striaght from the battery, perhaps using a resistor or something if you are worried about ecess current.....

JRC:.. yeh takes some pics of the unit and post it up. In order to wire it up correctly you will need, a relay, a diode, fuses, wires (cant remember what gauge), and other lil. parts. There are instructions on the web which can help you with constructing a proper harness for the HID.
MrThanh
25-01-2005, 10:48 PM
you dont need a diode. just make sure that u check the polaroty of all the connections before you turn them on.
I would think its cheaper to buy a kit which comes with complete wiring harness than do a retrofit?

MrThanh, what brand/type of HID are you using?
website, place to buy, etc.???
thanks mate........

up to you diode or not. Im not going to argue with you mate. If anyone has any enquires about DIY harness. i guess Mrthanh is the man to ask

i got mine from www.xenondepot.com a while back in a group buy that i'd organised, though with the exchange rate now, you should get some good prices.
reason i got it from there is that they use genuine philips components, and come with complete wiring harness, relay, etc.

Mate, did you get the XenonDepot HID or the Xtreme HID kit?
Also, did you choose the 4300k or 6000k bulbs?
