View Full Version : What would you do if this happens to your car?

Hi all,

I would like to get an opinion from you guys about what happened to my car.

I have a set of Volk Racing wheels with custom color from Rays Engineering on my integra. Unfortunately, have recently noticed that there is gutter rash on my front right hand side wheel. I am so upset about it as I can guarantee you that it was not done by me. 100% sure about it. FYI, I am a very pedantic and super fussy owner e.g. I am very picky about where I would park car and when I wash my car, I do clean every single wheels and nuts - including brake calipers. Those who know me also know how well I look after my car.

Now, I suspect that the gutter rash was done by the mechanic who did the service on my car when I had my last service with one of the Honda dealer in Perth back in the end of Dec 10. I understand that it has been 1.5 months ago but as I said, I do not have any recollection about this gutter rash being in the wheel prior to the service. If it was done by me after the service, I would have known as I drive my car with extreme care.

I am wondering what are my chances trying to get them fixing it for me? I don't think they will acknowledge that this was cause by them due to the fact that I don't have any evidence.

If you were to put yourself in my shoes, what would you do?

I am pissed off because when this happened, they did not inform me about it when I collected my car and every time I see my car, it is like having a fish bone stuck my eye balls. :thumbdwn:

Any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the long story but thanks for reading up.

Cheers

Wouldnt bother.
almost 2 months ago dude, thats why i wouldn't bother.
If you noticed it 2-4 days later, then yes... I wouldn't bring it up now because then you'll come across as a low baller chasing after something so small if you get me...
Let it go, get it fixed yourself IMO.

Thats life, some dealers/mechanics are good and will tell you when theres a **** up but not in this case obviously enuff...

Sorry but thats just the truth.

I think you have no chance, especially if it was 1.5 months ago.

Not wanting to be rude, but if you're this pedantic then how come you didn't notice until now? This will be your main problem.

I don't trust mechanics period. I scratched my rear bumper once when they were swapping the tyres on two of my sets of rims. I knew the did it because I'd had it resprayed recently and it made sense for them to do it if they slightly dropped a rim onto my bumper putting it back in the boot.

All they do is say "Why would be screw you when our company has insurance to cover this sort of thing? It wasn't us..." and you're pretty much stuffed IMO.

I hope you can get it repaired but to be honest all I can do is cross my fingers for you :(

Thanks for the replies guys

For you reference, I rarely drive the car hence why I just noticed it. Its my a weekend car as I have another car for daily. If she is lucky, she will get driven once every forthnight otherwise will just sit in the garage.

Furthermore, this has never happened to me before nor that I heard many similar cases. But again, who would on earth check every single bolt and nut when you picked your car up from a general service?

I have similar thoughts as you guys but I am just wondering if there is any other alternative hence posting it here. Wont hurt posting it and would be great to hear what other people had experienced.

Cheers

im sure everyone can understand how you'd feel but put yourself in the dealers shoes.

guy comes in 1.5 months later claiming damage to his car during service with no evidence.

all they have to say (and they will 100% say) is no we didn't do it....and you have no leg to stand on.

unfortunately thats life. you gotta suck it up and use another dealer next time....

out of curiousity who was it? burswood? ozy park?

U just gotta ease off and not be so pedantic. It's a gutter rash, can't imagine what'll happen if your car got keyed! lol

How come you noticed it after 1.5 months later? The mechanic will just deny it and there's not much you can do.

Just make sure you don't get it repaired at colorurmags, the guys the biggest douche there and will scam you money.

Even if you had noticed it right there and then, they would simply deny it.

The only real way is to take photos in front of them and have them sign a waiver, which has them take full responsibility for any damages caused.

If they refuse to sign it, take it elsewhere.

You will be amazed to see how they treat your car, once their signature is on a piece of paper.

No chance. Get it fixed, and check over your car more closely next time you pick it up from the mechanic, before you even drive it away. I wouldn't bother getting the rim fixed though, because nobody will even notice it, and you're bound to scrape a rim yourself, eventually. It's annoying when people **** your car up, but honestly mate, this is something that you could have done yourself without noticing.

Same thing happend to me in melbourne when i went to get a wheel balance, only difference is i caught the guy while it happend, but as their policy says, "we will not take responsibility for any scratches etc made to wheels" so they said "sorry" .... didn't repair it or give any form of payment besides the wheel balance being free, saved me a whole $25 ...
