hey guys,
after a few performance mods for my em1. wondering if you guys can be of assistance.
im thinking of either a full custom exhaust i.e. headers all the way back or to go full xforce. any major price and performance difference?
also what type of intake do you guys recommend?
finally what other performance mods can i do that wont blow my wallet out of the water.
or am i better off selling my b16 and buying a b18c2/h22a?
cheers

depends what you want really
we will start with the engine...
if you want a nice light screamer - keep the B16 - if you want more torque that has nice all round performance get the B18c
the H22 is a nice engine and can be tuned very well - but performance parts and information on building them is a bit more limited
as for mods - the best way to go is to do Intake - Headers - Exhaust
follow the breathing path of the engine
for the intake - best bang for buck is a Simota 'Whale' SRI off ebay for about $120
will make good mid-top end and they sound amazing on vtec
if you want more all round performance and a better quality filter - save up for a Fujita CAI (or Injen but Fujita has a better pod)
search SRI vs CAI if your not sure which way to go - plenty of info out there
for headers theres 2 ways to go - if you are more of a daily driver just get a cheap stainless ebay 4-2-1 header - even if you give it a sting on weekends these will do
(i have a $140 stainless ebay header on my build and it has seen a lot of action over the year i have had it and stil no cracks or problems)
if you want to get somethign a bit better quality - look out for a set of 5zigen and if you have money to burn go for Toda - they are bloody awsome
search 4-2-1 vs 4-1 header for more info on which one to choose
(xforce make some great parts but their headers just arnt one of them - theres alot of reports of them cracking)
now for the exhaust - on the b16 and b18 you dont want anything bigger than 2.25"
best bang for buck would be to buy an xforce S10 or S12 (S10 is better lol) from felix (racenation trader on here) and than get a exhaust shop to build you a custom exhaust out of mild steel
use mandrel bends and get a magnaflow high flow cat
or you can go full stainless which you usually buy as a kit - but unless your gona get a decent quality name brand i wouldnt bother - they sound very tinny but last 5 times longer than mild steel
as always - the info is out there - you just need to search
look forward to hearing back from you

stay with your b16a.. if you want cheap upgrade i would suggest type r manifold (jdm not aus spec) straight pipe to a spoon n1 exhaust

all ive done to mine is injen cai and catback exhaust. Ive got 5zigen 4-2-1 headers which I havent bothered to install yet...Ive got them for sale, if no one buys them I might put them on and see how they go.
Remember though its a 1.6l engine its never going to be a weapon (although its very good for what it is). I wanted good handling over performance hence why I spent up big and did all the suspension first on my EM1..

Fujita CAI or generic piping + good pod filter.
5Zigen or Fujitsubo header in 4-2-1 design is good. Or as Mikey said JDM B18C standard header if you can find one.
Cat-back I suggest go for a big brand if you can afford it - RnD, better fitment and flow/sound etc. Same story, check out the OzHonda traders to see who's selling Fujitsubo, 5Zigen, J's Racing, Kakimoto, Skunk2, Buddy Club etc.
And get a good high-flow cat. Magnaflow, Metal or similar.
Piping 2.25" IMO for B16A. 2" is alright but if you want to get more power down the track then you'll need a larger exhaust. I run 2.5" for mine because I have a build head :)
