im having trouble undoing the crank bolt from a block that is on an engine stand. there is no tranny or head on the block.
i have tried using a electric rattle gun which just spins the rotating assembly. what are some ways of holding the rotating assembly in place so it dosnt move?
i have tried holding the pulley with my hand but i still cant get it undone with the gun going full ball for about 30-40sec.

Put a closed spanner on the crank pulley bolt and with a hammer, hit it not so hard, but enough power to get it moving slowly. Thats how i did it, and it worked
Hope that helped

if the flywheel/flex plate are there you can lock the crank on them

just invest in a proper tool for 50 bucks and do it

there is no fly wheel on the block. i have tried to chock it in other places but they dont seem to work well. what feels like im getting a better chance is holding the pulley with my hand

using a piece of steel bar (25mmx2mm should do) lock the crank in position. Use a flywheel bolt on one end and a trans bolt hole on the other. know what I mean?

like this but with a longer piece of flat bar going to a flywheel bolt hole on the crank

You don't need a flywheel. Bolt it directly to the crank. will work exactly the same

im a noob on here but i recently rebuilt my d16a8 engine and i used a socket under the flywheel inside the engine beside the cylinder slowly turned the crank till the socket engaged the crank and locked up then undone it with a 1/2 inch breaker bar with a pipe on it
it was very tight and it worked a treat
hope that helps

well, considering how he said that there was no flywheel on the engine about 5 times, no, i dont think its going to help one bit.

it doesnt need to have a flywheel on the engine due to the socket being inside the engine between the crankshaft and the engine block

oh damn i forgot to post the outcome of this shiz...
in the end i used the gun and good ol muscle power.
i used 2 flywheel bolts threaded opposite to one another, then used used a spanner to lock into place resting on one of the arms of the engine stand.
