Hello.
I don't know if anyone can help me.. in my 91 civic (dual carb), well as the title suggests its quite heavy on fuel. Just wondering if anyone could tell me if it'd be something that might need replacingto help fix it?? (i dunno much about mechanics my self). it hasn't had any engine mods done yet, so yah.

If your worried I'd take it to a mechanic. Someone with a bit of knowledge with carbies - look up Yellow pages, mechanical repaires, carburetors -then take it from there.

I would say most carbis chew up fuel and being a 91 civic it would only have a 30ltr tank so you have to take that into account. Mine runs abit rich, I wouldnt worry abit it.

huh?!
40 litre tank.
something id wrong with your carby if you are chewing the fuel.
a possible reason may be if you have your foot to the floor on the accelerator the whole time, like starting off hard, or trying to push the car the whole time. the reason for this is because, unlike fuel injection, when you put your foot to the floor on carbies, it just shovels the fuel in. it wont do much for power, but will use up a bit more fuel, but it wont 'chew' the fuel.
but if you dont drive hard all the time, then take your car to mechanic. only other way of finding out.
i disagree with the 'all carbies chew fuel' comment!
i went 550kms (highway) and only used 3/4 of a tank. thats nothing.
most of the time, i will get anywhere between 450 and 650 (!) kms out of a single tank of petrol. sounds good to me.

Hmmm...interesting.
Mytoycivic how do you managed to get 450-650 on a single tank? On my trips i get roughly 250 half tank and estimating 400 for a single tank.
I've also noticed that when I use Vortex or any preimium unleaded fuel in my car, the car travels 50-60kms less than it would if I used unleaded fuel. Whereas everyone I know who uses premium unleaded gets more kms out of it than I do, or is this one of the negatives of having a carby set-up? Although I do notice the power gains significantly when using premo.

i get ard 450 kms for about $40 using bp ultimate petrol, in addition to that, i deliver newspapers everyday, it takes ard 30kms every delivery, approx 200 newspapers everyday (equals to almost 180 houses), my best achievement was 512kms, but thats about it, dont think i could get more than that..

there is a flap inside the intake pipe leading to the carbies. you can disconnect this pipe about 2/3 of the way toward the carbs. makes your car run a little more lean, but increases fuel economy and i found that my car ran smoother after this. take the pipe off (dont worry, it goes back on) and you will see a little flap inside the existing pipe. it is a vacuum-actuated flap that restricts air flow when your car is cold etc. i found mine was sticking about half way most of the time. there is a little pin-looking thing inside this pipe you will see that lifts the flap up from the back. if you just take the pin off the flap, it will stop moving the flap without losing any vacuum pressure, saving you any vacuum probs. this probably got me an extra 60-100 kms (average...sometimes less, sometimes more) per tank. try it!.
it works ;)
