MY car is dripping very little oil from teh cams or something....

I Went to the mechanic to check it out, he told me it was my timing belt, my car has abot 82000kms, the guy said i didnt ned to change it yet til around 90000kms..

Should i wait or have it done now for around 600 ish.....

If that means that a cam seal is worn and oil is getting on to the actual timing belt, get it changed ASAP.

Oil getting onto the timing belt in my brother's prelude softened the belt and lead to it snapping. Luckily it was only 2 bents valves, but still cost $850 in repairs

I had my timing belt changed 2 weeks ago along with new water pump, cam and crank seals. my eg si had done 144000ish, not sure if the person who owned it before had the timing belt done, but now it feels like a new engine, rev's much lower at crusing speeds. :)

anyway it cost me $420 all up.

cheers

Yeah mate you should get it done ASAP if it's in the situation Poid described. You don't want your t/belt snapping, otherwise i believe it's goodbye major parts/all of engine = big $$$. what were you quoted $600ish for? When I got my t/belt changed few mths ago it only cost me $220. Hanny's. cheapest and best place in town. :) Even replacing the belt on my '88 Celica cost (much) more than that. Just bring it into them and let them have a quick look. If it can be fixed for less or doesn't have to be touched they'll let you know. $600? wtf... i got my seals, waterpump and belt done and cost nothing near there...

The SiR B16A needs it done @ 80,000 - It's the one area I never neglect and have always done it at 70,000 regardless of what mechanics say. A B16A is an interference engine - the only thing that stops valves hitting pistons is the belt so I take no chances. Hanny's did it for 200 for me - 600 is a rip.

BTW - All the seals other than the rocker cover are still original on my engine - 256,000kms on the motor too ;)
