aus spec should start with b18c7 stamped on the block

look on the engine block. should be a stamp of the block.
b18c2 would be a VTIR
b18c7 would be a TYPE R

yea the b18c2 looks like its upside down.
The stamp should say b18c7 then some numbers under it. You can find the stamp next to the heat shield/header

Get the engine number and Chassis Number, email them to Honda Australia, the will generally reply within a day to confirm its history
Honda Contact (https://www.honda.com.au/contact-us.aspx)
I have used this twice and there were perfectly helpful, except for bringing the HSV-010 to Aus to race :)

the JDM R may look like this
B18C
2*****
so when he gives u the engine code for a revs check or whatever, it will look like b18c2... so dont get confused,
otherwise it will look likie thsi for a vtir
B18C2
100***
and C7 for aus spec dc2r
also the vin number
JHMDC231** should be the start of the dc2r vin or something similar
the [DC2] is model make [3] number of doors or soemthing and the [1] will signify type R... [8] instead of [1] will be vtir,
