View Full Version : 13.8sec isnt that hard in ITR

A few people have asked me to prove my 13.8 timeslip. so here it is.
i just want to prove that hitting 13's isnt that hard in a ITR with bolt-ons.
i havent touched my internals or head yet and there is still room for improvement with my setup.
i have a full mugen body kit on my car.. which doesnt help my 1/4mile, since it adds weight. :p

i heard Australia has drag strips that are A LOT better than in NZ.
believe it or not, our BEST drag strip is built on top of a swamp :thumbdwn:

also i am not into drag racing, so taking my R to the drags was a "spur of the moment" thing.

when the car ran 13.8@162km/h it had simple bolt ons:
Mugen intake.
Pro1 4-1 extractors.
test pipe.
Buddyclub spec2 exhaust system (i ran with a Silencer because officials said my car was too loud :( )
VAFC2- (but dyno-tuned to j's racing intake, kakimoto exhaust system. so needs to be re-dynoed to get maximum power :p )
aluminium crank pulley and spoon head gasket.
HKS hipermax II suspension.
15" TE-37 with michelin MXF street tyres. (just an average tyre, not cheap. not expensive.)

since then i have added a few more mods to the R:
Mugen muffler (so i wont need to run the silencer)
Spoon Throttle body

and in the future i will:
get better tyres
re-dyno tune my vafc2
add some aftermarket camshalfts(probably just stage 1 cams for ease of swap)

i most probably will head down the road of track racing, not drag racing.
anyone who has driven a ITR hard around corners know what i'm taking about :)

good luck to you all who are into drag racing :)

very good stuff.
Im running everything you are but in a Civic EK.
You have a lighter car and i can tell that by the variences of my times to yours.
I get the same 60' time but you get me by 0.4sec at the post.
Hence: ET: 14.281

how cold was it down there ?I've read that the trapspeed reflects how much power you have. but the km/h does vary a little depending how much wheel spin you get. i traped as high as 163km/h where as you have 155km/h. 1km/h is quite a big difference.
I've dynoed 135-140kw@ the wheels(depending on which dyno i go to), the result should have been a little higher because the VAFC2 was tuned to different bolt ons.

:)taking the catalyic converter probably gave me 2hp... which i would have lost by running a silencer in my muffler. LOL

thats fkn awesome:thumbsup:

did you do that with a full interior? does it have aircon?
what was the ambient temp?the car had almost full interior, minus the passenger and rear seat(est 20kg)
adding the mugen front, side and zeal rear bodykit, i wouldnt have been any lighter than a normal ITR

the car has its aircon belt taken off, but on the dyno. to my suprise the before and after wasnt much difference.

temperature.. not too sure, it was done on a summer night in NZ.

thanks,
getting a better time on the strip is only a stone throw away (re-dyno the car and better tyres).
but ill be concentrating on track racing more now, more adrenalin rush :)

Are thier differences between his itr (96 spec) and our itr we get here in aus?

26-01-2005, 01:25 PM
i have been saying this for such a long time... sub 14's is doable and thx for proving this flyryd...

96 is a lil different to our ausdm, but in the end only a little more powerful.. the lightweight rims would have a LOT do with the launch as well... dun expect to be running sub 14's with a set of 16's or 17's... unless u got turbo :)

ginganggooly
26-01-2005, 01:30 PM
what was the weather like on your run?

your terminal speed is pretty good, mine was only 151km/h.

but it's deffinately doable, if a vti-r with similar mods can pull a 14.5, i'd expect an R to drop into 13's...

flyryd
26-01-2005, 02:44 PM
performance wise differences...
96spec has a little more top end, but it runs a 4.4 final drive.
ausdm has a 4.7final drive, which is better for acceleration.

i have a friend who owns a NZ-spec ITR(exactly the same as ausdm)
from memory, hes run a 14.1@161km/h .
he ran that time 2 weeks before mine, on street tyres with IHE.

the weather was good, but was starting to mist near the end of the night.
temperature wasnt too cold, but i had to drag the car against the wind

hehe..u a legend on nzhonda fly...

any reason why u went for pro1's?....i got the same set up except i went for the TRR's 4-1..had them imported from Auckland....NZ has much better honda NA stuff than australia.(imo)..and Mark at Beyond is a champ :D . Great time slip

However I believe a light DC2R with that output could run 13's.

remember i am not in australia, im from NZ... ive heard you guys complain how low your dynos read etc...
then again... JDM has about 10extra hp to start off with.

our dynos read a little higher than yours, but still lower than USA dynos.
just to compare, most ITR's with IHE+vafc2 would get 125-133kw@wheels in nz.

here is one of my dynos

dynapacks read a bit higher than our more common dynodynamics (as they use hubs from memory).
Adam: he didnt use R-comps for his runs, i'd add that to the equation to your time in the civic. Dont know how much of a gain they were anyways.

I hate to be a stick in the mud about the dyno sheet.. BUT in the little box that says TCF beisde it the Number should be 1.00 not 1.15 Thats why you made almost 140wkw.. I know at the Auckland Final Autosalon show I made an extra 10wkw using the Gizzmo dyno.... But in saying that you would still be over 130wkw anyway..

We have alot of B18C powered cars over here running 120-160wkw most run between 12.8 and 14.0...

for comparison, i did 13.73 @ 101mph in my B20VTEC LS integra

it had 122kW on a dyno dynamics dyno in Sydney...

but this was with a 2.06 60 ft time

Bit off topic but is it expensive to import a car from NZ??

its more expensive to ship from NZ(a route less traveled) than japan and the car costs more than in japan. unless you lived in NZ and owned the car for a year then shipped it back. thats the only way it would be cheeper. You avoid all the import duties and taxes you need to pay on it. Plus you can import anything you like, including cars that normally cant be imported.

thats a wicked 60ft time, was that done on semi/slicks?
i wish i could get a 2.0 60ft time, any idea on how much the 1/4mile time will drop?

BF Goodrich drag radials, my best was 1.999...

they say every 0.1 off the 60ft = 0.2 off the ET

i had three runs, ranging from 2.12 to 2.16, my ET varied from 15.05 to 14.5... it was all because of my shifting i think.

cheers ;)

i'm not sure of the technique to be honest, so i'd be more inclined to put the 60' times down to luck and good track conditions... i basically gave it 6k rpm, slipped it a fraction and hoped for the best.

tinkerbell

that is a good launching technique ;)

it is the slight slip that is crucial...
