I want to get a new gasket as I am changing out my turbo and have the manifold off. figure may as well get everything fresh while its off there. Honda want a VIN number so that they can get the right gasket in (there are 3 choices) when I saw the computer the part numbers are the same aside from 3 digits and the P72 is only listed for '96 and up whereas the part number for my year, '94, is listed as 18115-P30-013.

There is a big difference in price $24 vs $68 with the P30 being the more expensive, last time i replaced the gasket it was with a P30 one and this has been all good.

Can I use the 18115-P72-013? I was under the impression that all B-series let alone VTEC exhaust manifolds were the same?

This is on a JDM B18C SIR-G engine.

well, after a few hours of googling lots of different options, I have come to a conclusion.

The P30 gasket is used on the earlier B series to '96 plus the Type R.
The P72 gasket is only on the '96 and up B series apart from the Type R

Reason is because the P30 is dual layer but the P72 is only single layer. This was introduced as a minor cost save by Honda when they realised that a single layer could do the job, this explains the price difference. I would think that with the DC2R being the premium model, cost wasn't such a factor.

looks like I will be getting the dual layer, given that this is for a turbo setup and the additional stresses that this involves.
