Hey Guys,

My EK Civic is short in oil I havent drove it much since I bought a new car so I don't know why there is a small amount in my engine. I have a 5L bottle of oil under my house which has been sitting there for 1.5yrs from the looks of the stickers on the bottle it has been expose to sunlight. Anyway I was wondering if it was fine to use the oil it has about 1L left should just be enough to refill it to the correct amount.

Also, its the same oil that's currently in the car. And the bottle has been sealed

I wouldnt recommend using it. Just go to any auto shop and grab a 1l bottle for like $12-15

Maybe open it and check its consistency colour etc.

Oil has a shelf life of one year.

even less , sitting under a house absorbing moisture and daddy long-legs carcasses !

To the OP - chuck it and go to the shop and get some cheap 10/30w or 10/40w oil

Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 will do the job for you. About $30 for 5L which should cover your top-up and another refill.

are you talking about a shelf life once opened? or a sealed bottle?

once opened - most if not all engine oil is sealed with a tab AFAIK

Oil has a shelf life of one year.

Is that all oil? Example power steering, transmission? Even brake fluid?
