Hi all. My car started throwing this code halfway while I was driving. And the car felt like it has lost alot of power. Somehow the ecu wont let me rev past 3500rpm. After switching off the car I tried restarting it and it is very difficult to start the car, like a constant loss of fuel and then it has abit of power to bring it back to 600rpm then cut again then restarts to 600rpm then cuts again so the car sounds like it has irratic idling but in the range of 0-600rpm

What exactly is this code? To my knowledge the OBD1 b16 only has one CKP sensor and it is in the dizzy. I have tried swapping a good one but it's still the same. I have also tried changing spark plugs and that's not the problem either. What exactly am i supposed to look out for? Where is this sensor? Could it be a faulty ecu?

Need help.

did u reset the ECU once the known working dizzy was installed ? You should pull the ECU fuse or disconnect the negative on the battery for a few mins

Your car is in Limp mode.

even with the new dizzy in, it wasnt about whether the CEL was still on, it more more like when i stepped on the gas the engine still behaved wierd. like misfiring of sorts... the behavior of the 2 dizzys were exactly the same i reckon my orginal dizzy wasnt at fault?

Also I took a quick look hrough ghat cel4 diagnostic thread. Most of the direction points towards replacing the dizzy which I did although I didn't reset the ecu. Must i really reset the ecu after replacing? It's a bitch to borrow the dizzy again

do this

borrow other dizzy.....reset your ecu to clear codes , then reinstall the borrowed dizzy and see if it blows the same code/s

this is how my idling is like just for reference... struggles before becoming stable. when it becomes stable the CEL turns on

Erm... I changed my clutch a few days prior but I don't think it affects the CKP? It was running fine for a few days.

if you have followed the diagnostics out on the DIY test and it all checks out then chances are the ECU is at fault. I have had to repair a few ECU's that faulted the Distributor sensors when they where OK.

you must do the continuity test, resistance test and frequency test to prove your CKP is functioning.

you didnt remove any wires from the dizzy connector did you ?

No I ds not remove the wires. I only removed the 8 pin connector and tested for 350-700 ohms as per the manual and my dizzy was fine. Did not do frequency

It's an ecu fault. Changed the ecu and problem solved. Thanks to all who helped
