Mechanical gauges should still light up. :)

The mechanical part refers to the way that the reading is taken.

Oh sweet.

Was just curious cause it said they need little to no power, which I thought was odd if they were lit up .

They light up from behind the face but they use a normal style globe with no LED or whatever but is small and uses very little power. Just a question though, are these to be mounted outside the car?

If you are planning on monitoring oil pressure and temp or water temp, first off you will get a less accurate reading with a mechanical gauge due to the length of tubing required to take the fluid to the gauge, secondly, I dont think that it is a good idea to have hot fluids under pressure inside the cabin. Boost is not so much of an issue as it is just air.

Here is a couple of pics, first one when I first installed Boost, oil temp and oil pressure electric gauges, second showing my convoluted sensor positioning with oil cooler takeoff and 3rd showing how it all is now and lit up.

They are a nice gauge I think. Quite a simple classic design.

The boost gauge is mechanical and the other two in the first pic are electric. as you can see the mechanical gauges have a 'input' for whatever you are sensing plus power for the lighting. The electric gauges have the same to power leads which plug in at the top but then they have another 3 wires for power and also a lead that goes to the sensor

yeah i was planning on mounting inside, they don't look too bad actually, i wonder if i could swap to blue lights?

i know what you mean, im just pretty poor.. forking out an extra 80 bucks for elec > mechanical won't be easy, hopefully i can figure something out.

thanks heaps! for the reply :)

swapping to blue lights is easy, just change out the globe.

I didnt think they were that much different for electrical in price? should be about $130 each max, unless they have gone up recently.

What do you need them for? unless you have a moderately modified NA or a turbo engine or track your car then there is no point, spend the money on mods that do something and not just good to look at.

more so just for looks and i like glowing shit in the dash.. lul, i got a nice pillar pod so i figured i might aswell make it look snazzy, the mechanicals are about 90 and elec's about 130-40 i think.

thanks heaps for info dude.
