heres a good diy, also says to use the manual that comes with the car to find the points that the oem bracket is connected by.

There is an even better solution than creating a different bracket.

If you can see past the crappy image quality, you will see I have simply removed the huge heap of plastic junk and screwed the plate directly to the car.

All you have to do is bend the plate until it sits snug on the same spot where it previously sat, and drill 2 holes where you want it to hang on the bumper. To hold it in place, I used the 2 screws and 2 bits of metal with thread from the old holder. It can be pretty tricky but just insert the screws into the holes you just drilled, and reach through the bumper and back round the top and hold the thread in place to hand screw them in.

This way the bumper is acting as the piece of plastic that the plate used to hold onto, but with a much nicer look.

That's what I thought until I realised that there will always be a license plate on my car hence the holes that have been drilled will never see daylight.

IMO I would much rather live with 2 little holes than a huge monstrosity of plastic that is the license plate holder.

I thought it was illegal to modify the number plate itself, which in this case is bending it

Must not be in QLD, been pulled over at least 3 times from RBT etc. And nothing has been said. Its not a very sharp bend btw.

Woudn't dril into the bumper like that, but when you remove the big plastic box, it leaves a hole directly in the middle of the bumper, so atleast you have covered that hole.

Also illegal to modify your plate in QLD. RBT aren't going to bother looking over that type of thing, but if you do get defected for what ever reason, you'll get a defect notice, propbably loose a point or two, and you'll be made to pay for a new plate...

Just saying...
