can i chip/modify a p07 ecu from a vei to run a d16y1?
if i was to do this could i continue to use my laf seneor?
if i change to p28 do i have to adapt 4 wire 02 sensor or can i still run laf?

you can modify the P07 to run D16Y1 however without an O2 senor
you cannot use your LAF sensor
if you change to P28, you must run a 1wire O2.

hey,
thanks for the help.
i think i will just pick up the harness, 02 sensor(4 wire) and ecu(p28) from the eh9 i got the head from.
this should be a straight plug and play. if i use the vei harness i must move pins to suit 02 sensor wires, is this all i have to change?
there is a black box on the vei firewall, what does this do?
do i still need it?
i have already removed my charcoal canister.
cheers:thumbsup:

you dont need the black box.
you will have to modify the O2 wiring to sute a 4 wire O2
you will have to modify the P28 to sure the 4 wire O2
use a 1 wire O2 if your P28 is stock

i thought a stock y1 running a stock p28 ran a 4 wire 02, i must be wrong.

but if i get the 02 from the y1 as well as the harness and ecu its all just plug and play, right?

yes, it should all be plug and play

cheers ecu-man, you were right about single wire 02(dont know what i was looking at) never sould have doubted you.
anyway, got the p28 today and car runs much much better. the harness i was getting was from an auto so it didnt work, i will just have to rewire for the single wire o2.
can i just run a seperate wire to the shock tower from the sensor(instead of cutting up harness), which plug will this wire go to?
any diagrams/pics and insrtuctions are much appreciated.

above link describes diagnostics for 1 wire and 4 wire O2,
I would disconnect the LAF connector. and all ECU connectors. get a multi meter and set it to continuity, put one ens onto C14, then probe all the pins of the LAF connector until you find the O2 signal wire. then cut the LAF connector off, and solder on a wire wire O2 engine loom connector and ensure you dont have any shorts on the cut wires. wrap it up with tape. reconnect everything. Job done. no messy wires either.

thanks mate, ill check that out. let you know how i go.
also there is a connector to the black box on the firewall, what is this for?
there is what looks like a step up valve that i installed(with vei harness) that connects to a vacum on the firewall side of the intake manifold, it too has a connector to it. what is this for?
i have both of these disconnected atm along with 02 sensor. i have cel, but that will be the 02 sensor?
these veis are a bit unique.

the conenctor to the black box would be for vacuum solenoids inside that would direct vacuum. Its been a long time since Iv playes with a VEI, so if you have a photo of what is inside it may help.
either way you can leave it disconected. You should read your ECU for codes to see why you get the MIL.
VEI is Unique indeed

i will get a photo up as soon as i work out how to do it properly.
this morning when i started it the cold start came on. after a few minutes it appear to turn off but instead revs oscillated between 1000 and 1500. gave it a rev but it stayed the same. after driving for about 10 minutes i stopped, idle was back to normal. all good now. any ideas?
