Hi All,

Just joined and first post.

Im wanting to upgrade from my very annoying toyota yaris and i was needing some info to help my decision. At the moment i would like to get a 2007 (ish) Jazz VTI S, Auto or a (sorry to swear!) Suzuki swift RE4.

Now, ive read about the 6 month servicing (thats what i'd hit first as i don't do many k's per month) and also the CVT issues and changing that oil as well. The car i'd be looking at would be around the 40-50,000k mileage and probably off warranty, so what would be the service intervals? Would I be right in thinking that i'd be doing a oil change (DIY or a non honda mechanic) every 6 months on both engine and gearbox up until the next major service (when would the next major service be, 80'000k?)

Would people say due to the servicing the jazz is an expensive car to run? I know the swift is a 12 month service, which would make it cheaper, but im really drawn to the Jazz (interior space, equipment) and its a bit different.

Any info would be much appreciated. :D

personally, i would be advising you to do an oil & filter change every 6-9 months if your not doing 10,000km within 6 months, as even tho your not doing 10,000km, the additives in the oil start breaking down from around the 9 month mark. your engine will love you alot more if you service it more often than if you let it go. i would just follow the manufactures recommendations with service intervals until you have done 100,000km then sit down with your mechanic and work out a service schedual from there.

with the cvt oil change, i would be doing every 15,000 - 20,000km, but make sure you use honda genuine fluid for this, as i am personally yet to find a OEM equivelant cvt oil on the market. gets your hands on the correct procedure for changing cvt oil & follow it to the T.

if your in melbourne pm me and we can discuss this further

30 K CVT change intervals here, tranny all smooth and fine at 80K km's. At around $100 for CVT oil, you wouldn't want to do it too often. I've always done 10K intervals on the engine oil, and 20K intervals on the filter ( as per Honda service schedule ). All good, a cheap car to run, no timing belt to change ( chain ), although fuel filter and valve clearance checks can be a little pricey unless you diy. Plugs at 100K on VTI and VTIS.
