Battery is fine - still reads 13.8Volts
Starter motor - car still starts, but then dies. So I doubt it can be the starter motor

Have you checked the wiring around the ignition barrel? Sounds like a loose connection when turning it to the 2nd position

Yeah I'm still checking it, been 4hrs now and I can't seem to find loose wire or anything. But I'm still trying,

well, I opened up the ignition barrel looking like thingo...

Okay here are the main bits, how much am I meant to sand off? There are springs underneath it, can I extend it so it can conduct with the switch well? Or would it burn it faster? Should I put solder on top for better electricity conduction?

I sanded a bit of and yay it starts fine. But the lights do dim out abit though. Atleast I found the problem.

Can I buy this thingy from Honda or Autobarn? What is it exactly called?

Called an Ignition switch, you can sand it down but it'll only be a temp fix. Get it from honda if they still stock em or the wreckers.

New ignition switch on my mate just fitted it.

after 10mins the gauges start to dim out and goes back to normal.

i turned the car off.

turned the car to II and it looked like it had a flat battery, because gauges were very dim.

then I turned car off

Turned car on again then it gauges were normal. but car still turned off

Sounds like an electrical problem some where, anyone got any ideas???

hmmm might be the PGMFI.. heres a DIY on how to fix it by ECU-MAN http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?31796-DIY-Main-PGMFI-Relay-repair&highlight=PGMFI+repair

I can still hear the relay ticking,

i think its either the alternator or something

So the problem with the ignition is gone now? But the cluster lights start to dim after 10 mins? Is that when the fans start to kick in? Check your ground wires? Do you have a voltage meter?
If so, sus out the voltage it is when the lights go dim.

The problem is back to square one now. I put the key on II and theres no lights on dash, I put the key between I and II and lights come up.

I'm checking every ground wire there is, every fuse I have, and I still can't find the problem.

Where I haven't check is my firewall area,
I'll check my sound system too.

More ideas please

Have you checked your ECU to see if its storing any codes?

i had the PGMFI relay issue in both my integras and soldering fixed it. my car was starting and then stalling sometimes, and more so in hot weather. it wouldn't hurt to pull out the relay and put some more solder on all the connections? :)

still looks like an ignition switch problem. did you put a new one in it, or second hand unit. Is there an aftermarket immobiliser wired into the ignition switch wiring ?

What he said ^, if it's ur main relay it'll stall, but not cut off all the lights.

Man I don't know how you do it over the internet, giving everyone the answer to their problem. It's great to have a guy like you here. I will personally gift you.

It was the ignition switch, what I did was got a 2nd hand barrel from my mates. The guy who sold me the first barrel was faulty, it was all rusted inside the barrel. But I cleaned it out, but the springs inside the white barrel were all rusted and when it was fitted, the key would barley move.

My close friend PHM91 from this forum hooked me up a DC2R igntion switch, he also did the wiring for me, with his mate.

After PHM91 wiried it up, the car would only crank, it wont start.

We checked all the wired, if they were connected properly or not.

Then this genius comes up, and looks at the main plug that plugs into the fuse box. 1 of the plugs were different, the wires were in a different area. Then what he did was re-arrange the wires so it matches the old plug, and then we plugged it in ---> cranked the car and my face was like this :D. it started.

I'll pictures up just for future reference. These do fault out after 10years or more. If your car is daily and use it lots, the life of these are very short.

Thanks everyone for their help.

This happened when I owned my integra ! My solution was the key barrel! $600 fix :(

ECU-MAN

you only have to change the Switch on the back of the barrel when this happens. should cost less than $600

here is a DIY http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?32333-DIY-Ignition-Switch-Replacement

Lol yeah I figured this was the case in my opinion but the car was quite a distance from home when it stopped working so the nearest mechanic got some work lol and I got a new set of keys for my Honda :)

What year is your VTIR?

I got the same issue, I got an ignition switch from the wrecker for $45, only thing is i don't know which year of GSI manual its from.
it also has 97.3.21 on it, i assume thats the year etc so hopefully its the right one for my 94 VTIR
I've comparied it with ones on ebay but it has two extra black bits sticking out, theres a pic here if anyone can help me figure it out what they are: http://members.optusnet.com.au/a11an/ignition.JPG

wanna make sure i got the right bit and it'll work before i start messing around.

Yo man,

Mine is a 97 VTiR. Theres 3 different ignition switches around, 1 for GSi Integra, 1 for VTiR Integra, 1 fore ITR DC2.

I used mine from a 01 DC2R, only issue was the main plug that connects onto the relay, the wires were in different areas, but thats easy fix, all my mate did was change wires around

See the white piece plastic, just take it out with a long nose pliers, then take out the wires
http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/GU-ARB/P1100155.jpg

Then, have a look at your plug on the relay, try and match the wires so it plugs and makes contact. Colors of the wires should be the exact same.

This is the 2nd plug, it was exactly the same as my VTiR one, so I didn't need to move around
http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/GU-ARB/P1100155.jpg

Just check in case though, if you install this new plug and it just cranks and doesn't fire up, then definetly wires need to be changed around.

If you get a VTiR one they should be the same, but check.

Other than that anything else let me know, I'll check on this thread regulary.

Good luck

BTW the extra black plug looks like from its something else apart from the ignition switch, probably dont even need it. Unless the other car had some hard core aftermarket stuff on it.

Thanks, I tried just replacing the white bit but didnt help.
So I swapped it and it got worse, didn't start at all.
So I cut the big black thing off and it connected the wires that ran through it together and it was sorted!
Very how this is a common issue where the wires just go.

Yeah I did the same, just replaced the white barrel and it worked for abit, but then normal problem started back to square one!

Very common man, pretty soon every integra older than 2000 will start to getting it.
