I wouldn't mind a final verdict on this. Some say 30, 40, I remember reading 35 somewhere. So, ED6 dual carby, how big is the tank?

drive it to totally bone dry empty ( until u run out of fuel)....then...get it to a servo and simply fill it allll the way up.

amount of litres = pretty much size of tank. :)

Wait...dont try that lol

My 89 Hatch has never been filled over 30, mainly around 27-28. But I don't think I was really running it totally dry, there's no fuel warning light in the EDs right?

Yer no petrol light....but i find that i can always run on empty for a while....

if u really wanted buy a petrol can full of petrol, and do what bennjamin said, i still wanna do that with mine and see how far i get from the empty line....

In the Honda Civic brochure guide for the 1991 Civic Hatch, it states the fuel tank capacity is 45 litres.

:) I still have the original brochure. sweet.

Mine can't be 45, it sits right down at empty when I refill 27L.
Maybe 89 = 30L - 90+ = 45?

yeah thats what im thinking 88-89 =30ltr tank then they changed it to 45 for 90-91

im lost too. well as stated earlier, in the drivers manual it states 45L. i've got the 1988 model h/b.

i'm not sure of what size fuel tank is in there right now after the engine conversion. ive been told it is of the same size as the original. A JDM EF9 Sir fuel tank is 45L.

The most i've filled up so far with the needle running as low before i chicken out was 38L.

So i'm pretty set it is a 45L tank.

JDM EF9 tanks are not 45L. I have run mine dry and it only takes 40L My old ED6 was 30 with a 5L reserve.

Setanta is right

my ED9 CRX (91) was 30L Main 5L Reserve.

you can always count on Setanta. :)

I'm not being a smart-a$$, but what puzzles me is as to why Honda Model History (& drivers manual for the ED6) shows that they are 45L.

Either way, i guess it shows that we are getting better fuel consumption than originally thought.

The reason is that the ED6 manual etc are for the USDM Civics usually. They are useless for Aussie EDs.

The issue with the ED is that it's not an EE or an EF. EEs were built in the UK and EFs in Japan - their home continents - ED's were exports to Asia, Africa and the US... although there were also EDs built in US factories to totally mess with the equation.

What makes tank size questionable is that the US got the ED6 as a dual-point or multipoint EFi setup - not Carbed. They also put seatbelts mounted to the doors (not the B piller and messed with other bits and pieces (resulting in a EFi 1500 or 1600 that still couldn't match the dual-carbed JDM built motor).

I'll make an assumption here: The ED6 info you got is possibly based on the USDM car. Just disregard the USDM influenced info and all will be good.

BTW - double check your info every time. Helicoils aren't easy when you snap a stud when you follow a Civic manual's torque settings - only to find it was for a motor with slightly different setup :?

BTW - the ED6 isn't the same as the JDM twin-carb 1500 (XT25) - it shares the same motor, but not much else. That's why the Honda History site may be different.

Personally - I've yet to see a site that correctly records the Aussie specs correctly - just the JDM and USDM ones and occasionally the Euro EEs.

Cheers

Well the info i got, was from the ED6 manual, equipped with the car.
And as for the EF9 tank size, from the Honda Model Data site.

On the site it even states the 3rd gen Civic whether carb'd or efi, had a 45L tank too. And even a jdm 1979 1500cc civic gl had a 41L tank.

I'll take it that facts back in the day weren't needed to be as accurate or sought after as much as they are today. Or simply that typo's & mistakes were made.

But when something has been tried & true, there's no looking another way i guess.

What Honda model data site are you using?

The official Honda.jp site doesn't list any of the EDs

The Honda Model data site was in reference to the EF9 fuel tank size only :
http://www.honda.co.jp/HOT/ModelData/civic/8ch-ka-709/sir_sy.html

Babel doesn't seem to be working for me atm, i have one i translated before on file, but am having problems attaching it.

The ED6 info was from the car's owner's manual.

I know the topic is about the fuel tank size of ED6 civics, but i mentioned EF9 tank size somewhere before.

IMO i just didn't see why they would shrink the size of a fuel tank for different markets.

I get around 10L/100km which I think is pretty bad. How does this 5L reserve tank work? I recall reading that in my manual, is it actually a seperate tank with some nice 13 year old fuel sitting in it?

Setanta

Ouch - I get 9.2 around town with the boot going in for most of that and 7.3 for highway runs.

5L reserve is part of the main tank - not a separate one. Basically - your fuel light comes on at approx 8L to go and the tank reads empty at 5 left (approx). At least, it does with the EF9

I think everybody agrees the ED6 has no fuel light, must just be the EF9 for that one. I think the tank reading empty with 5 left might be correct, like I've said I've never filled up over 28L but I've always gone just before the needle is right into the red.

i drive a 88 ED sedan, and in the manual it says that its a 45L tank, and ive filled it about 43 litres before. I think ive got about 10 litres after E.

My '91 ED ran out of petrol just as i was in the driveway to a petrol station :) I filled it up for around $50 on vortex, so i'd say thats about 45L.

Also my one does have a petrol light, that that its not working for some reason :S
