hullo everyone.
I have a DIY AUX cable in my gfs jazz vti - great and all but fiddly and basically falls in and out of L/R channels due to a bad connection. Yes , my fault but I wonder.
Is there an actual OEM AUX cable or kit for this jazz ?
Or , does anyone here know of a direct harness-to-AUX jack cable out there ? I just want something easily plugged into on the dash from my ipod to a male/male AUX cable.

thanks !

i've been looking for something like this for a while. most FM transmitters either have horrible sound quality or have useless features and hence cost way to much. also the fact that you have to dangerously reach down while driving to change song. My current fm transmitter also has the same issue as bennjamin of falling in/out of left/right channels, i suspect due to a bad 3.5mm jack or wiring in the transmitter.

@flipfire: do you know if the adaptor is plug'n'play for a gd3?

i remeber seeing an ipod adaptor from Honda a while ago. seemed a bit fidly with a large adaptor box when you could just DIY a cable straight from the radio.

Im not sure if that adapter works but I just ended up DIY'ing it using a CAT6 cable and terminating it to a flush mount female jack on the fascia.

Quality is good, no issues. I taped it down hard.

sounds like a good solution. how much did it cost for parts? i'm a massive electrical/tech newbie so i don't rly wanna DIY. hoping someone out there might be able to do it for me :P
when DIY'ing, can you put the jack anywhere in the dash provided the wires are long enough?
Cheers

$0 since you can make it out of scrap parts and equipment. Its quite easy to do. Yes you can put the jack where ever you want you or just dangle the cable on the center console.

-6 pin harness from an old honda cd stacker or DIY PC case pins (http://www.hondafitjazz.com/audio/aux6.jpg)
-Termination plug (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PS0134&keywords=3.5mm&form=KEYWORD) or jack (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PS0122&keywords=3.5mm&form=KEYWORD)
-Soldering iron
-Heat shrink (optional) or electric tape
-Duct tape (to secure the cable from vibrations)
-Extra wire (optional)

i'm moving towards the xcarlink adaptor as it utilises the radio controls to change song etc which is much safer. not sure if it'll work with a iphone3gs, but i can't get in contact with them as their contact page on their site isn't working.

google tells me around $100-120 AU. Would be compatible....but I found this on EBAY

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CTVHOX001-HONDA-Accord-Civic-Jazz-S2000-Aux-Input-IPOD-/160512765900?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item255f4e6fcc

About $55 AU or so - looks to be the same thing as mentioned above !

had a look at the dash/hu to figure out how to get the radio unit out, but for the love of god i cannot figure out how to get it off. there seem to be no screws or tabs or anything to push/pull/twist. is it just a case of brute force? i sure hope not

bennjamin

There is a screw under the lower facade - hope this helps

Once you pop that cover open, theres 2 more bolts you need to undo to get the head unit out.

http://www.hondafitjazz.com/audio/headunit2.jpg

You need to duck down to see it. I think i used 8mm socket with extension to get them out. I tried a screwdriver but it stripped instantly.

Then its a pain in the ass getting the whole unit out. Use something plastic to help you pry it out. Use this image as reference to where the tabs are

not sure what you're after, but it says:

- RETAINS CONTROL FROM iPOD/iPHONE, MP3 PLAYER OR OTHER DEVICE WITHOUT LOCKING IT UP. NO TEXT DISPLAY OR CONTROL OF DEVICE WILL BE AVAILABLE ON STEREO.

which probs means you can't control the tracks for the in-car controls.

haha yeah its got to the point where i need to pull the jack half out and twist it around to get a good signal.

i have a question, when in radio mode and I press the CD/AUX button nothing happens, it does not go back to CD mode, only way to go back to CD mode is to eject the CD and put it in again, does that mean my CD/AUX button is broken? and getting the AUX cable will be useless anyway since I can't switch to AUX?

Received today. Installed in 15 mins

And works fantastic. Direct plug in - has a powered ipod jack so charges as well. Just route the unit to behind the drivers side plastic and make a small hole to feed the ipod connector. Easy and doesnt skip a beat.
You press AUX and it automatically plays - press the tune or select tabs up or
Down to change song too. Pretty cool. Feels almost OEM

the tune up/down paddles - two of them no idea what they say of the top of my head ! You can use these to select next or previous song....OR just do it on your ipod too as per normal. You can install it anywhere - its just a cable , then a small box then a another cable to a ipod jack.

@bennjamin: which ebay link did you use? So basically plug and play and allows you use those tabs on the headunit and charges the iPod too!

After taking off the 1 bottom screw, then the 2 8mm bolts and popping the face off the dash completely, how do I actually pull the unit away from the car? It seems like something connected from behind it stopping it...

Nah what I mean is the tabs are loose, so after a short search I found that it's the climate control cables that are stopping me from pulling the whole thing out... Is there a way around not having to go through trouble of disconnecting cables to all 3 dials?

You dont need to - you literally pull the entire unit out and let it hang down towards the gearstick. But dont let it hang too long or over stretch it as you will pull on or more of the cables resulting in the selectors not fully engaging and an angry gf !

So nothing on the back needs to be d/c before pulling the whole unit out? Why does mine feel so tight? feels like I'm already stretching something when pulling on it... Only managed to get it about 5cms out before giving up, haven't tried again yet...

is it possible to get extension thingos for power drills?

Dont use a screw driver...you will definitely strip it like i did... but look closer, its actually a socket screw. I think it was 10mm

You sir, are a legend! took out both screws with ease. 2nd one fell partway down the inner-dash but managed to fish it out lol. I installed the GROM i2 unit, took roughly 1hr, would've been alot faster if i knew what i was doing.
sound quality is great, no hums or background noise. no drilling required, just went through the existing holes in the lower glovebox area. good service from CushieAudio, bit exy but worth it for the oem-ness lol. :)

i tried to take the bottom center piece off, most frustrating moment of my life.

then undoing the 2 screws deep inside and one of them fell out, i cant the screw. I just cant reach it.

yeah - ive partially broken the fan selector with all the constant in/out of the dash lol.

for those that are interested - ive been through the EBAY unit described before but it didnt work for some reason - didnt bother sent it back and got a refund. Now i rock a modified (IE cleaned up) version of the DIY AUX input cord on the first couple of pages. It has a female plug set into the interior plastic , right below the fan control. So , you can plug in a male/male AUX jack and use it or unplug it for a clean look. Works great.

seems like such a PAIN!!!!

fillit
15-09-2011, 02:15 PM
one screw on the bottom to remove the plastic cover for heating contorls.

2 screws for the L brackets which are dug in deeeeep, if you put your head where the shifter is you can see where they are.

then tugg with all your might :P, alternatively get a trim kit with tool that allows you to undo clips without breaking it.

gre03
15-09-2011, 03:32 PM
the screws are the easy part, taking the panels off is another story. the trick is to sea-saw the tabs out. for instance with the bottom panel, get the back bit loose somehow and lodge a paddlepop stick or something to make sure it doesn't go back in, then do the same with the front. gently levering the piece out is imo safer than just yanking it out.

now with the front of the bottom panel, from memory i put something small & flat (paddlepop stick) into the gap between the control surround and the lower panel, and levered up towards me. every time i got a bit further i pushed in the stick a bit to try and increase my leverage. i did this slowly for all 3 rounded sections and eventually got the damn thing off.

told you so! yeah the nightmare over and done with, just decide carefully on the headunit you put in, because it's just as much of a bitch to get the aftermarket one off.

i've been trying to do this for a while now, when i connect the AUX cable to the back of the HU, the audio sucks. i have to turn the volume up to the max and the output is probably at 5-10% normal volume.

is this because of shit cabling? if so what kind of cables should i look into getting? currently using the pins from an old computer and some unbranded earphones Aux jack.

gre03

yeah i always have my iphone full vol when hooked up to the car, and just change the hu vol. one thing (might just be mine) is that when i use headlights or anything that uses power, the power must dip and causes the hu vol to almost turn off. either need to turn up the hu vol stupidly high, or just pause/resume the song on the iphone.
