I was just wondering if thinking about buying a really cheap car (<1000) to just drive around for fun was a stupid idea?

I need your opinions in regards to the running costs of this idea and also the likely hood of the car becoming useless ie scrap metal plus the minimum legal requirements for the car. Also has anyone else thought about doing this?

well unless u got a weekend warrior, or a track car, its pretty pointless in paying rego an insurance for 2 cars if one does the job

plenty of ppl have done this, its all about budgeting

Alot of the guys i know who have weekend cars are generally ppl who track the car alot or who have a really nice car, old/vintage or hipo performace car eg. GTR, an thats when i can see the need for a cheap run about car

yeah dont do it - we have a few cars in the driveway now and they hardly get driven - they just sit there and take up space and cost money for fuel and rego

unless you get a vintage car, track car, rally car, or hyper car - dont bother

if ur gona get like an EG with a B16/B18/K20 and have fun working on it and driving it after work and after hours and have the money to spend on it
sure - go for it

but if your gona spend 1k$ on a cheep civic and just let it sit and rust - dont bother
