At least 160kbps although I always use 192kbps. Anything less doesn't do the ears any justice. :p

If you convert to WAVE from MP3 dose it give your sub power?

converting from mp3 to wave will give absolutley no benefits in terms of sound quality. At best it will be exactly the same quality as the mp3, just a bigger file, and at worst it conversion will lose further degrade quality from the original. Start with decent mp3s and you should have no problems.

btw, as far as i know mp3s aren't typically highpassed, so bass shouldn't be an issue.

Cnet got a good program called. FreeRip. no cracks required its free...rips upto 320kbps. which is really good..all u need is 192....or use VBR (variable bit rate) between 128>192....and it will save and space and sound the same basically.

I personally use apple iTunes to rip all my music. I use the lossless feature which basically means no quality loss (mathamatically lossless) And it reduces the file size conserably from CD's to like 400Mb. But if your just listening to your music on your home stereo or in your average car stereo 192Kb's should suffice for the normal listner. It's not until you train your ears furthur like audiophiles and audio enthusists that you use lossless compressors.

BTW iTunes rips in Mp3(all rates) Attrac(all rates) and Lossless. And its free too.
