On Tuesday 5th of April, the Targa Tasmania tarmac rally turns 20. Targa Tasmania is a genuine “red-blooded” motorsport competition held over 6 days and 2,000 km. With 200,000 plus spectators attending the rally and an estimated 480 million international TV viewing audience. It’s quite easy to see why this is seen as one of the holy grails of motorsport.

Yokohama Australia (http://yokohama.com.au/) would like to wish all the best to drivers and their teams running on ADVAN (http://yokohama.com.au/ourtyres/tyre.aspx?tyreid=221), including Sam Stevens (http://www.samanthastevens.com/) & her co-driver Claire, Steve Glenney & Mazda Motorsport Australia (http://www.mazda.com.au/motorsport) and Adam Newtown.

A few words from Adam Newton and his team:
“Our approach for Targa is one of conservatism and consistency” says Newton. “We are comfortable with our current pace and hope that by focusing on being safe and consistent it will be enough to achieve a top result. Every road for us so far has led to Targa; from driving with pace notes to getting the best out of the Evo, we have been fortunate enough to exceed our own expectations”.
Changes to the rules now permit the use of six tyres over the course of the event (up from four) and once again Adam has chosen Yokohama to provide the all-important contact with the tarmac.“The ADVAN A050 (http://yokohama.com.au/ourtyres/tyre.aspx?tyreid=221) is the latest in tyre technology and provides a level of performance and safety that we feel is second to none. They have been a major factor in our development providing the high, consistent levels of grip we require”.

Of the competition, Newton says “With this 20th Anniversary of Targa attracting a record number of entries, we are up against quite a few past winners of the Early Modern category so I’m really looking forward to the challenge and hopefully a great result”.
